Description

Originally, at the very beginning of the 20th century, the main street of the district, intended to link the embankments to the boulevards laid out on the site of the mall near the 17th century perimeter wall, separated the district into two sections. It is now a thoroughfare within easy reach of the property which is, nevertheless, not close enough for it to cause a nuisance.
Several places of worship and cultural centres are dotted throughout the sector’s architectural landscape and contribute to the citizens’ miscellaneous leisure and sports activities.
This mansion house is in a little street, bordered by several houses of similar standing, near to public gardens. It is on the corner of a narrow, no-through road which provides access to a double garage.
Enhanced with an elegant facade, adorned with original features, this mansion house conceals a little, private back garden which pedestrians can get to via the no-through road. Although standing in the centre of town, this walled property is discreet; its varied vegetation keeping it out of sight of onlookers.

The mansion house

This luxury residence, constructed of dressed stone and topped with slate, spans almost 300 m², including the cellars. It opens via a carved wooden door, enhanced with a glazed bull’s eye window protected by wrought iron, into a 20 m² entrance hall. With its outstanding mosaic tile floor, it houses an elegant wood and stone stairway, providing access to the upper floors, cupboards, a toilet and a vestibule, with a door leading out into the narrow side street.
The basement includes a cellar and a boiler room.
Two garages, topped with an attic, open on to the no-through road.
A walled garden, spanning approx. 200 m², is home to various species of plants and trees as well as a fountain and a garden shed.


Ground floor
A 25 m² study, on the left-hand side, features herringbone pattern parquet flooring.
A 30 m² lounge, on the right-hand side, has a marble fireplace with a mirror trumeau. Its walls and ceiling are decorated with moulding and its floor is laid with oak wood herringbone pattern parquet flooring.
Double glazed doors separate it from an adjoining 35 m² dining room, with similar decor and materials including a wood and stone fireplace, mosaic floor tiles, mirrors, cupboards and showcases.
A fitted and tiled kitchen, on the left-hand side, has a door leading to the vestibule and to a terrace.
The reception room opens at the end via a wide glazed door, comprising four sections of richly decorated stained glass, on to a vast 35 m² pergola terrace, featuring a wall decorated with a large trompe-l’oeil and mosaic flooring. It dominates the wooded garden.
A stairway goes down to the basement.

First floor
The landing provides access to three bedrooms, one of which has a fireplace, a bathroom, two shower rooms and a toilet. There is oak wood parquet flooring throughout.
Second floor
The landing, laid with oak wood parquet flooring, leads to four bedrooms, a bathroom, three shower rooms and a toilet.
There is an attic above.

Our opinion

Despite being very near to the historic centre of Tours, this mansion house is beautifully enhanced with flowers. These are not only to be found in the walled garden, an invaluable asset in the centre of town, but also on the pergola terrace which blurs the dividing line between the inside and the outside. Flowery motifs are also a recurrent theme of the decor and are to be found on the wood of the front door, on the stone above the openings, in the ceiling plasterwork, on the marble fireplaces, on the ceramic mosaic floor tiles and on the stained glass windows. This residence will, therefore, provide the family lucky enough to settle here with a bouquet of qualities and advantages.
