Menton, a town not only renowned for its proximity to Italy, but also for its beaches, with a great deal of interest justifiably shown in its historic, picturesque town centre. It is a wonderful place to live as it has all the attractions of a large town, with its wealth of shops and culture, as well as all the advantages of a convivial, reasonably-sized town.
Description
The flat
This flat is composed of the first and top floors of a villa, the ground floor not being part of the property. The pathway going around the building makes it possible for residents to access the flat all on a level with the top floor, making them forget that there is a lower level. The illusion is perfect. This robust, traditional villa was constructed in the 1950’s. It is, however, in need of some renovation work to restore its former glory. The layout of the flat is quite simple. Residents enter the house at the back where there is a lovely shady terrace. A vestibule provides access to a large, double, south-facing living room, with a local stone fireplace. The floors are covered with old terracotta floor tiles and traditional slatted, wooden shutters filter the southern light, providing the flat with subdued lighting. On one side are a bathroom, a kitchen and a pleasant dining room, with long lattice windows. On the other side, a little corridor leads to two bedrooms. Renovation works are required throughout.
Our opinion
The view taking in Menton’s historic centre, Saint-Michel church, the old castle cemetery and the sea casts a captivating spell over this rare property. The wild, lush land which looks down on the house is a haven of peace and is but waiting for daring landscaping to reveal its character. The plainness of the house means that it blends in with its surroundings, providing a discretion that is essential for anyone with taste.
