Between Vence and Bar-sur-Loup,
a large villa backing on to Caire plateau
Vence, ALPES-MARITIMES provence-cote-dazur 06140 FR

Near to the town centre of Tourrettes-sur-Loup, between Vence and Bar-sur-Loup, is a residential district which has grown up on a convivial and convenient site. A reasonable number of properties share the area which benefits from an unobstructed view stretching to the sea. It backs on to the cliffs of Caire plateau, the magnificent rocky ledge of which creates a luminous background courtesy of its limestone. Tourrettes-sur-Loup, its shops and restaurants emblematic of the medieval centre are within easy reach. In the same direction is Vence, followed by the seaside. However, Bar-sur-Loup, a town with a lively centre steeped in history, is in the opposite direction.

This property is reached via a driveway off a secondary road. Bordered by a local stone wall and a row of olive trees, it runs alongside the property’s grounds before leading to the side of the villa, where a robust lean-to can shelter three vehicles. It is then possible to see the main villa on one side and, further on, the guest house, discreetly set on the other side.
The vast grounds, extending right up to the buildings, are gently terraced, the tiers connected by stone steps and planted with various species of numerous plants. A swimming pool is enhanced with several changing cubicles and a small wooden hut. An unobstructed view takes in the surrounding wooded hills and stretches as far as the sea.

The main villa

Traditionally built using masonry, it has a double, traditional overhanging cornice, under a roof covered with Roman tiles.
Cubed in shape, this villa has been cleverly constructed on a natural slope, giving each floor independence and direct access to terracing on a level with the floor in question, laid to lawn on the ground floor.
Said cube is topped with a rectangular section, the roof of which slopes towards the rocky barrier.
Inside, the plain and functional rooms feature white walls, with stone floors. They are steeped in light coming in through the numerous openings overlooking the garden and the hills, with a view stretching to the sea.
The main floor, on the first level, is an entire, large, self-contained flat, directly linked to two terraces, one given over to mealtimes and the other surrounding the swimming pool.

First level
This main level comprises a large living room, with a fireplace, a large kitchen, a study and a bedroom with its own bathroom. A central corridor, linking the entrance to the south-facing living room, provides access to all the rooms. It has direct access to a covered terrace, intended for taking meals outside and, immediately, the large, paved terrace surrounding the tiled swimming pool.
The quality of the tiles covering the floors is good, as are all the materials used throughout the flat.
Underfloor heating ensures that winters are comfortable.

Ground floor
Below the main floor, on the garden level, is another self-contained flat, the bedroom and living room of which open directly on to the garden. A covered terrace runs alongside the entire south facade.
A little further away in the garden, under the swimming pool terrace, several changing cubicles and storage areas have been created in the local stone lower section of the pool.

First floor
An independent bedroom, with a bathroom, takes up the rectangular section, topping the building. Its wooden parquet flooring and horizontal window unquestionably bring to mind a sheepfold eyrie, making the area particularly cosy.
The garden
The garden surrounding the villas is planted on gentle terracing, stone steps connecting the different tiers. The highest extends the villa’s first level with the large swimming pool terrace and a lovely lawned area.
The tier below, on the lowest level of the villa, is covered with miscellaneous plants and trees, leading to the last tier, also wooded, with a good number of olive trees and enhanced with a small fishpond, set in front of a wooden hut.
These verdant, flower-filled gardens are immaculately kept, the result of regular and enthusiastic gardening.
The property’s access driveway, at the bottom of the land, is lined with walls, built from wide pieces of local stone and shaded by lush vegetation.

Guest house
A short distance from the villa, this annex house comprises a living room, with a small atrium, a kitchen, a bedroom and a mezzanine.
This little, perfectly self-contained villa could easily be separated from the property.

Our opinion

Well located between Caire plateau and the open valley extending as far as the water’s edge, this property stands in a beautiful natural setting.
Constructed using traditional methods, the villa and guest house stand on the heights of the land. These living areas can be independent or used to complement one another. It is therefore just as easy to imagine a way of life steeped in privacy in these verdant surroundings facing a vertiginous landscape as a bed & breakfast activity.
