Description

There are balanced amounts of parkland and woods on this site and it is not enclosed therefore allowing deer to come and go. The mansion, dating back to 19th century, bold and impressive spanning four levels including a garret floor, is intriguing. Close by there are seven outbuildings that were more recently built and surround it harmoniously:
1) Diana’s refuge, a large three-storey lodge
2) A hunting lodge, two-storey
3) A well-being lodge, two-storey
4) A small single-storey lodge
5) An amphitheatre, single-storey
6) Swimming pool and spa complex
7) A caretaker’s lodge, set aside from the rest with a private access
A tennis court
The woods, bought at a later date, border the parklands and feature a man-made lake.

The mansion

Built in 1893, it is a fine example of architecture from this period. The building has rendered facades. The top floor is covered by a half-hip roof with flat tiles. Looking at the mansion it is H-shaped. A prominent central section is in the form of a turret, partly incorporated into the carcass. The building is flanked by two wings that stand out at right angles. Access is via a decorative wrought iron door in the turret. A flight of six steps, with brick nosing, is topped by a flat tile canopy and oak colonnade.
The back of the building is straight with no wings. A terrace and conservatory run the full length of the facade.

Ground floor
A decorative wrought iron door opens in to the entrance hall with oak panelling. The hall with its cement tile flooring also features a solid oak wood bar and incorporates the solid oak staircase.
On both sides there are men’s and ladies toilets and a cloakroom. Opposite the entrance hall is the first lounge with “the bar” and oak panelled walls. The top of the walls are decorated with ceramic tiles in a checkerboard motif. Cement tile flooring. A brick and stone fireplace, painted ceiling and exposed beams and joists. Large windows open on to a teak-decked terrace from where the swimming pool can be seen.
A second living room adjoining the first has a chevron parquet flooring, oak panelled walls and brick and stone fireplace. This room opens in to the conservatory that looks on to the terrace.
The dining room, also adjoining, has chevron parquet flooring too and features a marble fireplace, moulded cornices and painted ceiling. This room is the last one along the facade and also opens in to the conservatory. At a right angle there is a music room with chevron parquet flooring, moulded cornices and painted ceiling. The walls are painted with rural pastoral scenes. The kitchens: vast laboratory equipped with a central island and including just some of the following fixtures and fittings: 4 burners, plancha plate, hot plate, fryer, ovens etc.…, all under a large extractor hood. Bakery, washing room with industrial dishwashers, kitchen garden, industrial fridges and cold storage room, pantries and several storage rooms.

Hunting lodge

This lodge spans two storeys, has rendered facades and a flat tiled roof. It is entirely given over to bedrooms, there are 6 in total, 4 on the ground floor and 2 on the upper floor. Each bedroom, just like all the others, has its own shower/bathroom and separate toilet (unmeasured but the rooms are good-sized and in perfect condition)

Well-being lodge

This is a two-storey lodge, with rendered facades and a flat tiled roof. It is also given over to bedrooms. There are seven: four on the ground floor, each measuring 22m2 with shower/bathroom and separate toilets, and three on the upper floor each measuring respectively 14m2, 12m2 and 20m2 with shower/bathrooms and separate toilets.

Small lodge

Also called “Snow White’s Lodge”, is a single-storey building comprising two bedrooms measuring respectively 11m2 and 12m2, and also equipped like all the others with a shower/bathroom and separate toilets.

Amphitheatre

The centrepiece of this property, is a modern building that fits in nicely with the rest of the complex. Its contemporary style is perfectly suited for seminars. It is a single-storey building and includes no fewer than six rooms and a wonderful oratory measuring 110 m2 (50 seats) and another large room of 77 m2. One office measuring 15 m2, another 30 m2 as well as two windowless offices measuring 12 m2 each. Three toilets.

Swimming pool and spa

Single-storey building, devoted to well-being and relaxation.
The swimming pool area measures 200 m2. The pool edges are made of stone and slate. There is also another area dedicated to fitness and well-being with a hammam, lockers, toilets and machine room (It is a chlorine pool)

Tennis court

Caretaker’s lodge

This building is set a little way away, and its garden is enclosed by wire fencing. It is single-storied, measures 150 m2 and comprises a lounge, a kitchen, three toilets, four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

Our opinion

It was a hotel not long ago and all the necessary permits and authorisations are still valid. All forty one of the bedrooms and their bathroom facilities are in excellent condition. They are all different and were created to have their own special touch.
There are a number of seminar rooms, very well designed and sensibly planned as are the bedrooms. This specific lay out means that different events may be organised at the same time. The oratory is sumptuous and the swimming pool and spa luxurious.
So close to Paris, this unique site is just waiting for a second life.
