A vine-growing region in the middle of the French department of Var, at the foot of the Loube mountain range, a protected site, and near to an authentic Provencal hamlet with exposed stone houses. It was in this haven of peace that Frédéric-Mistral came to write, in front of the chapel.
Marignane airport is an hour away, that of Hyères 45 minutes. Toulon TGV train station is 40 minutes away and that of Aix-en-Provence 55 minutes. The motorway can be reached in 25 minutes, as can Brignoles with all of its shops. A supermarket is 10 minutes away and small local shops in the village just 5 minutes. Tennis courts are nearby.
The traditional Mas house
Spanning approx. 350 m² of living space, three rooms on the west side could become independent. The house is entered via the south facade, overlooking a gravel terrace with an arbour, shaded by a plane tree.
The self-contained section
An entrance door on the west side of the building opens into a self-contained area comprising a kitchen, a vaulted cellar, a lounge, a shower room and, upstairs, a bedroom with a toilet. This separate entrance can also communicate with the main section of the Mas via the dining room.
A space on the south side, forming an outside living area, still has an old wash-house, an old ornamental pool with aquatic plants and fish, as well as fruit trees (kaki, kiwi, pomegranate, quince, grape, olive, fig, cherry and walnut trees). On the west side, a 13x6 m swimming pool is enhanced with a pergola, a fountain, a pool-house and a barbecue. The entrance gates, a carport, with a closed section, as well as a French bowls pitch are all on the north side. Another set of remote-controlled gates also provide entrance to the property.
An old, 20 m² outbuilding, with a shower room, awaits full renovation works. It would be possible to extend this building by up to 50 m², by recuperating the space currently taken up by and old tank.
This authentic Mas house still exudes unquestionable charm, with its vestiges of the past, its beams, its numerous rooms on varying levels as well as its old ornamental pool and wash-house. Its five stairways make it easy to move around.
The independent sections are ideal for a large family and could also be used for the development of a bed & breakfast activity. One outbuilding still awaits renovation and could become a caretaker’s cottage or be used for rental purposes. The quiet, tranquil surroundings, at the foot of the hill, are but an invitation to go hiking or to relax and enjoy the fruit in the garden.
