Several schools and universities are also to be found in Poitiers, bestowing the town with eternal youth. In addition to museums and contemporary art galleries, Poitiers is also home to a national theatre.
The mansion house
The front door opens into a living room, where a fireplace takes pride of place. The ceiling here, as in all the other rooms, features exposed beams. Three west-facing, unoverlooked windows let copious amounts of light into this room. Double French windows open out into the courtyard. A corridor leads to a stone stairway, a kitchen, a toilet and a lift. Floors are laid with Burgundy stone and ceilings are 3.25 m high.
This level can be reached via a spiral stone stairway or a lift. It comprises a lounge, with a ceiling almost 3 m high and three large windows, looking out over the street. A corridor leads to a guest bedroom, with its shower room and toilet. An area used as a laundry room could be converted into a dressing room. The three areas have a view of the courtyard. Floors are covered with Burgundy stone or wooden flooring.
This level is taken up by the owners’ bedrooms, bathroom and dressing room. The bedroom, with its impressive fireplace, corresponds to the floor surface areas of the living room and the lounge. The bathroom is also fitted with a shower and a toilet. The dressing room is next to the bathroom.
A third bedroom, with a cathedral ceiling, has been created, together with a shower room, with a toilet, and a dressing room. The floor is laid with wood flooring. A corridor identical to the two others leads to the converted attic.
A 22 m² cellar, with 2.5 m high vaults, can be reached via the stone stairway. It houses a 2004 boiler and the lift mechanism.
With no French Historic Monument listing of any kind, this house was very lucky to have found its present owners.
