In a small village less than 60 km from the French capital, the A4 motorway providing direct access. 25 km from Chessy-Marne-la-Vallée (TGV and RER train station, Eurodisney, Val-d'Europe shopping centre) and 3 km from Coulommiers, an attractive town with all amenities (shops, market, hospital).
The brook watering the property has its source in the midst of the water table, slightly upstream from the mill. Further down it flows into the river Grand-Morin. This somewhat unusually sized flax mill stands, therefore, in an exceptional setting that is not subject to flooding, courtesy of its dominant position which has also enabled it to produce its own electricity via waterfalls.
The building, constructed in 1580 from stone, is rendered. Its roof is covered with local, flat tiles (redone in 1999).
The mill is laid out over two levels, above cellars and under attic space.
The facades feature small paned, wooden framed windows which vary in size on the different levels, thus indicating that the heights of the ceilings also change with the floors.
The building topped with a pediment is on one side.
This building, laid out over two levels, is constructed from millstone grit and topped with an interlocking tile roof. Its ground floor comprises a 22 m² artist’s studio, a 16 m² stable, a woodshed and some old rabbit hutches. There is one, 16 m² room upstairs.
This building, also laid out over two levels, is again constructed from millstone grit and topped with an interlocking tile roof.
The ground floor, with its stone floor, houses a 12 m² fruit storeroom, an 8 m² area used for storing bins and bicycles, as well as a 16 m² workshop.
Upstairs is an old hayloft.
The roof is covered with local flat tiles.
This mill is currently inactive but it could become operational once again as it still has all of its machinery.
Furthermore, the large wheel, spanning an unusually wide 6 metres, is still proudly in position. The working mill has been transformed into a dream mill in the midst of a magnificent Garden of Eden, proving a delight to the eyes in every direction: the vegetation, the sparkling and peacefully murmuring water flowing from the fountain and the dance of the black swans as they glide over the lake. Inside, the old mill has been perfectly restored using the most noble of materials and exquisite taste, without sacrificing modern-day home comforts.
And the outbuildings are not to be outdone.
Luxury, peace and quiet as well as voluptuous pleasure are words that come to mind when describing this property.
