A 139 m² flat and its 550 m² garden
facing Saint-Cloud golf course in Garches
Garches, HAUTS-DE-SEINE paris 92380 FR

In the French department of Hauts-de-Seine, 5 km from Porte-d’Auteuil, the town of Garches is surrounded by Saint-Cloud Park and Saint-Cucufa wood. This property is but a 10-minute walk from the town centre and is very near to Saint-Cloud golf club, founded in 1913. Furthermore, the green gives golf enthusiasts a clear view of the Eiffel Tower. In 1984, astronaut James-Irwin gave one of his photographs to the golf club with the dedication: “To Saint-Cloud Golf Club, the most wonderful place of Earth”. The weekly market held in Place-Saint-Louis is renowned for the quality of its produce. The prestigious Daniélou and Passy-Buzenval secondary schools and sixth form colleges are nearby. 15 minutes from a train station on the suburban Transilien line L providing links to Paris-Saint-Lazare taking less than 30 minutes.

In the 1930’s, architect Gabriel-Vaissière designed and constructed the six-storey building in the midst of a private, wooded estate, opposite Saint-Cloud golf course. The style of the building, with its refined lines, is undeniable reminiscent of that of the Modern Movement and therefore the work of Le-Corbusier. The initial aim was to break with architectural codes by abandoning all decorative features in favour of functional spaces. The influence of the industrial revolution can also be seen through the use of modern materials such as concrete, steel and glass.
On the ground floor of the secure building, this 139 m² flat looks out from every room over its private 550 m² garden, via numerous wide atrium windows. This flat opens into a vestibule which provides access to a vast 51 m² living room. A corridor, lined with cleverly concealed wall cupboards, leads to a fully fitted kitchen. The master bedroom is enhanced with an adjoining bathroom, comprising a shower and a double vanity unit, as well as a terrace leading directly into the garden. The second bedroom also has its own shower room. An 18 m², lock-up garage and an 11 m² complete this property.

The flat

Dating from the 1930’s, this 139 m² flat looks out over its private 550 m² garden. The eye is constantly drawn to the outside through tall, period atrium windows in the living room, the kitchen, the master bedroom and the bathroom. Herringbone pattern, oak wood parquet flooring, the marble fireplace and geometric rooms are all features typical of the Roaring Twenties. The living room is extremely spacious, as is the master bedroom, the private terrace of which promises extended breakfasts in the sunshine. The adjoining bathroom includes a shower and a double vanity unit. The fully fitted kitchen, laid out longwise, is highly functional. These rooms are followed by a second bedroom, a shower room and a separate toilet.

The garden
This private, French formal garden spans a surface area of 550 m². Decoratively trimmed boxwood, hedges and trees exude harmonious lines. Numerous species have been planted and reinforce the countrified air of this enclosed area. Three large arcades along the walls make it possible to receive family and friends with no loss of privacy.

Our opinion

This flat is in an up-market district in the west of Paris, where old families and celebrities reside, near to the racecourse and some of the best schools. It has all the advantages of a family home in the country, whilst being just a stone’s throw from the French capital. Bright, surrounded by a park and benefitting from a large, private garden, this property promises rare privacy and a pleasant way of living, in contrast to the demanding daily routine of those who work in the Ile-de-France region.
