Rue-Galande was created at the very beginning of the 13th century. Its medieval origins can still be seen today in the curvature of the road and the numerous period houses that continue to border it. A shopping street for centuries, it became a little shady for a while in the 19th century but is now one of the streets most typical of old Paris and of the 5th arrondissement in particular.

It is but a stone’s throw from the cast iron bridge, Pont-au-Double, which leads directly to the parvis of Notre-Dame cathedral on the Ile-de-la-Cité. It is also near to the Saint-Michel district and the Latin quarter.

The entire French capital is within easy reach, not only on foot, but also via the local area’s many means of public transport.


Reached via a lift, this flat is on the 4th floor of a very old building, its modest origins reflected in the plainness of the communal areas. The entrance hall, fitted with many cupboards and hanging spaces, provides access, right, to the flat’s main room. Its three windows look out over the peaceful apse of Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre church, surrounded by a wooded square, and over Notre-Dame cathedral. In the distance, it is possible to see the Saint-Jacques Tower, standing out against the Parisian sky, creating a superb backdrop for the lounge. A long kitchen has a similar view.

The window in a bedroom, on the left-hand side of the entrance hall, looks out over Rue-Galande and the street’s old facades. This bedroom still features several exposed beams. An adjoining bathroom, with a toilet, is fully tiled with pink marble.

The entrance hall also provides direct access to a separate shower room, with a toilet.

The car parking space

In addition to the flat, an SAEMES concessionary parking space in the Maubert-Saint-Germain carpark, with tenancy rights until 31 December 2070, is also available for €35,000 over and above the asking price.

Our opinion

Some well-concealed places are worth seeking out! And this is one of those places as the existence of such a viewpoint over the medieval Paris that people all over the world dream about cannot be envisaged from the street or even from the building entrance. A few renovation works would bring the flat in line with the standing of this sought-after area where, away from the urban hustle and bustle, residents can look out over the apse of the oldest church in Paris and the majestic towers of Notre-Dame cathedral. It is impossible to imagine a better place to live so close to the history, the culture and the arts, for which the French capital is so famous.
