Sainte-Opportune was a historic district in Paris from the beginning of the 18th century until the French Revolution. It corresponds nowadays to the south-east section of Paris’ 1st arrondissement, straddling the actual districts of Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois and Les-Halles. A modern statue of Sainte-Opportune at 9, Rue-des-Halles, is a reminder of the old church, which was sold in 1792 and finally demolished in 1797. All that is left today is the square known as Place-Sainte-Opportune, with its excellent public transport system. Café terraces and local shops abound in this lively, much sought-after district.

Description

This 2-storey flat is on the 5th and top floors of a charming little building constructed in 1900, in the Sainte-Opportune district, part of Paris’ 1st arrondissement. The building’s wonderful entrance door is fitted with an interphone security system. The communal areas are immaculately kept. A stairway, with walls decorated with framed posters, leads upstairs. The entrance door to this flat is on the 5th floor. Its first level comprises an entrance hall, a living room, a small kitchen and numerous cupboards. An interior stairway goes up to the 6th and top floor of the building which consists of a study area, at the end of which is a bedroom and a bathroom with a toilet. The entire, double aspect flat is extremely bright courtesy of its numerous windows, facing west and south.

The flat

The entrance door, on the 5th floor, opens into a vestibule. A door with French tiles separates it from the lounge. The first level is illuminated and steeped in sunlight via five double windows, protected by wrought iron railings hung with planters. External blinds can be used if necessary to shade the sun. A small kitchen. Many cupboards are laid out on this floor and it would be possible to install a toilet. A white-painted wooden stairway goes up to the top floor.
The 6th floor is under the rafters. The stairway leads up to a study area, at the end of which an embrasure provides access to the bedroom. This very bright floor is illuminated via shed dormers. A bathroom with a toilet.
The floors in this flat are covered with carpet, laid over concrete.
Each level has a ground surface area of 30 m².

Our opinion

It is difficult to feel more in Paris than in the Sainte-Opportune district with its age-old buildings. Only restaurants which are institutions and the best of food shops remain in this former economic area of the French capital. Both levels of this white-painted flat are warm and welcoming, being steeped in light as well as airy. Although in the midst of this lively neighbourhood, its lofty residents are away from the city’s hustle and bustle.
