In Vincennes, in the district known as the “magic square”, ideally located between the fortress, the town centre and the wood. The underground line 1 and the RER train line A are less than 300 m away, as is the SNCF train station. Shops, restaurants and a market are nearby, together with good schools. The street, lined with luxury buildings, is directly opposite the fortress. The building is set in a corner, facing south and east. It has a superb clear view, taking in the entire fortress and stretching as far as the Bois-de Vincennes.
The building was constructed on the site of a villa in 1912 by local architect, Georges-Malo. This architect, property developer and owner of many plots of land built a good number of buildings in Vincennes at this time. The dressed stone facade, with red brick panels, features wide openings, most of which are enhanced with balconies. Two majestic old lanterns adorn the facade, together with impressive columns and numerous floral motifs. The building spans six floors and is in pristine condition. It boasts a live-in caretaker.
This is one of the flats on the third floor (there are two per level) reached via a lift. The front door opens into a gallery which provides access to a lounge, followed by a dining room. Both rooms have superb views of the fortress, notably courtesy of two balconies. The lounge has a marble fireplace, topped with a trumeau, whilst the dining room features a stone fireplace. A fully fitted kitchen, including an eating area, is extended by a back kitchen with a back door. Three bedrooms also open on to a balcony, still facing the fortress. These rooms have marble fireplaces. A bathroom is fitted with a wash-hand basin, a bath and a toilet. A shower room has a wash-hand basin, a shower and a toilet. This flat still has many or its original decorative features such as herringbone pattern parquet flooring, wainscoting, moulding, stucco decoration and other panelling. It was fully renovated a few years ago.
There is nothing mediocre about living in front of Vincennes keep. Especially as the balconies in almost all of the rooms are like look-out posts surveying the entire fortress and the green open spaces surrounding it, one of the two big woods that flank Paris. The brick and stone building is unpretentiously decorated. Its communal areas, notably the ironwork of the stairway railings, introduce visitors to the elegance of a flat, the original decor of which is just right with its rocaille or Louis XVI style fireplaces, panelling, herringbone pattern parquet flooring, etc.
The position and the commune are among the best to be found on the outskirts of Paris.
