Description

This house, standing in a hamlet composed of two properties can be reached across the fields via a little road. Its rectangular grounds span approx. 8,000 m². These 17th and 18th century constructions are laid out in the middle of the grounds in an L-shape, forming an interior courtyard with a barn and a guest house. A perimeter wall encloses the property on the south and east sides. There is an unobstructed view of the countryside and, notably, the surrounding woods, from the west and north sides. The south-facing house looks out over the courtyard and the swimming pool, cleverly protected by a low wall, vestige of an old building. Behind, the eye is drawn by a tennis court and the woods on a lower level. The 17th century barn, followed by the guest house, protects the courtyard from west winds. The wooded garden, the orchard and the vegetable garden introduce diversity amongst the different sections of this continuous property.

The 18th century house

This 18th century house is typical of the region’s traditional long farmhouses. Constructed of quarry stone blocks and topped with flat roof tiles, the framing around its doors and windows is made of freestone. Numerous openings on the south side let copious amounts of light flood inside. A paved terrace on the facade looks out over the courtyard and the swimming pool. A second, north-facing terrace, shady in the summer months, looks out over the tennis court. Spanning approx. 190 m² of living space, this house is enhanced by its old, perfectly preserved features such as terracotta floor tiles, beams and fireplaces. The communal rooms are bright, spacious and convivial.

Ground floor
This level has several entrances as each room on the ground floor opens on to the south-facing terrace. A spacious kitchen, laid out in an east-west direction, has a large stone fireplace and is steeped in light courtesy of its two windows and its door on the south side as well as its opening on the second, north-facing terrace. Behind, a linen room, with a shower room and toilet, could easily be transformed into a bedroom.
On the right-hand side, a dining room, with light-coloured terracotta floor tiles and a stone fireplace, is separated from the lounge by an open, old half-timbered partition. The lounge, with identical flooring, is enhanced by a fireplace which contributes to its warmth. It is adjoined by a little television room with a window providing a panoramic view over the grasslands and the tennis court.

First floor
A stairway goes up from the dining room to the first floor landing. On the left-hand side is a large, south-facing bedroom, with cupboards and its own bathroom. Another south-facing bedroom is on the right-hand side. Straight on are a shower room and a toilet. At the end, a third, south-facing bedroom has its own private shower room.

The guest house

Part of the 17th century building, this guest house faces east-west and looks widely out over the courtyard and the garden. It has its own west-facing terrace, with a view over the countryside. A large living room, spanning approx. 45 m², includes a kitchen area. There are also a bathroom, a toilet and a laundry room. A large, adjoining study, spanning approx. 27 m², could easily be made to open on to the main room. Upstairs, an attic which could be converted spans the entire surface area.

The barn

The 17th century, east-west facing barn is constructed from quarry stone blocks and covered on its upper section with flat tiles and on its lower section with slate, as are the roofs in the surrounding countryside.
It spans a floor surface area of 300 m² and houses a storeroom and a machine room. Predominantly paved, it could be used as a function room. Opening on to the courtyard, its tall, double, wooden doors are dominated by an impressive canopy, composed of a complex roofing framework covered with slate.

The parklands

The grounds, spanning a surface area of approx. 8,000 m², are composed of many different sections: a courtyard, a swimming pool, a tennis court, wooded areas, an orchard, a vegetable garden and terraces. Completely unoverlooked, these parklands abound in feelings of tranquillity and well-being.

Our opinion

Such an impression of tranquillity and of distance from the town’s hustle and bustle is astonishing so near to the city of Tours. The layout of the buildings creates a first private area that is reinforced by parklands. Both houses and outbuildings are made immediately appealing by their simplicity, their character and the good taste that governed their renovation works. The gigantic, old canopy on the barn is a piece of architectural anthology. The layout of this little, enclosed universe makes it ideal for living and for receiving guests all at the same time.
