This property stands just 7 km from Legé and Aizenay with all their shops and schools. Challans town centre as well as the port and beaches in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie are less than 30 minutes away. Slip roads for the motorways and La-Roche-sur-Yon train station are 25 km away. Whereas Nantes and its international airport are less than 50 km away.


Surrounded by the Vendée countryside, the market town and its church are revealed after having crossed several fields planted with vines, bordering the main road. This commune, with more than 2,000 inhabitants, is developing courtesy of its favourable location. It has various local amenities and a nursery. A secondary school is 5 km away.

The residence

This property is reached by going around the church. It is surrounded by stone walls, with gates opening on to a gravelled area with a well in front of the main facade. There is nothing about the exterior to indicate that the building dates from the early 18th century. This house, with its plain architecture, is well laid out and easy to live in. Inside, stone, old restored wooden floors and exposed beams bestow warmth and comfort on a daily basis. The reception rooms and the bedrooms are extremely bright courtesy of their high ceilings and numerous openings.

Ground floor
The front door opens into the hall, housing a stone stairway. A long corridor leads to all the rooms on this level. On the right-hand side is a large, double-aspect lounge. With its original wooden flooring and a fireplace, it is a credit to its owners. Next to it, a room, currently a bedroom, could be used for other purposes. On the left-hand side of the entrance hall is a dining room, with a fireplace, and an adjacent room which awaits renovation. They precede the old kitchen: its fireplace, its panelling and its oak wood doors all indicating the age of the residence. A new fully fitted kitchen and a study complete this level.
First floor
The wide, stone stairway, with its wide, shallow steps, goes gently up to the landing. As on the floor below, all the rooms on this level are immaculately kept and convivial. On the left-hand side, a master suite comprises a bathroom with a toilet, a master bedroom and a children’s bedroom. On the other side of the corridor, another bedroom has its own bathroom and a view over the parklands. The last section of the house comprises a hall area with a toilet area, a fifth bedroom, a linen room and a communal shower room. Finally, a little area under the rafters could be used as a games room.

The parklands

The parklands extend over 1 ha. They can be reached either via the tall, wide gateway, adjoining the outbuilding, or via the house. A few stone steps lead down to a vast, perfectly exposed and shady terrace which is but an invitation to spend peaceful moments with family or friends, looking out over the parklands with their clear view of the poplar forest. These fully walled, completely unoverlooked parklands also include an old kennel.

The outbuilding

The outbuilding, spanning approx. 250 m², stands alongside the street. Although the first level is currently used as a workshop, a woodshed and a storage area, the upstairs could easily be renovated and turned into additional bedrooms.

Our opinion

All sorts of decorative features give away the age and value of a residence such as bevelled stone railings on its stone stairway, old flagstones and moulded oak wood storeroom doors. Ostentation is then pointless as in this local country house which looks out over private parklands, screened by poplar trees. Conversion of the outbuilding could provide a family with additional living space.
