the former residence of a well-known composer, just 65 km from Paris
On the outskirts of the French capital, some 60 km away, 1 km from Mormant, with its train station providing hourly, 35-minute links to Paris-Est. This house, bordered by a little, very quiet street, is in a small hamlet, surrounded by fields, out of sight and hearing of any nuisances. It is easily reached via the A4 motorway (between 45 and 60 minutes depending on the traffic).
The courtyard is open. However, railings and a gate close the entrance to the two enclosed gardens. These premises are enhanced by three paved terraces, facing south, north and west, as well as a small pond in the second garden.
The traditional, long farmhouse
With a central building flanked by two wings, this H-shaped house dates from 1782. Its rendered facades are constructed from pink sandstone and topped with local flat roof tiles.
The central building is given over to living space. The ground floor of the wings is partially given over to outbuildings:
- right wing: barn, boiler room, garage;
- left wing: workshop and cheese dairy.
A spacious entrance hall is enhanced with old terracotta floor tiles, exposed ceiling joists and a decorative fireplace. A cupboard has been installed under the stairway. A study and a toilet. A dining room, with a fireplace not in working order, and two large cupboards for housing crockery. The floor here also features hexagonal terracotta tiles and the ceiling has exposed joists. A fitted kitchen, tiled in the old-fashioned manner, communicates with a boiler room. A little, through corridor links the entrance hall to the courtyard and the garden. A through lounge is illuminated via three French windows, one of which opens on to the courtyard and the other two on to the garden. The floor is tiled and the ceiling features exposed joists. This room is efficiently heated via a wood-burning stove.
Above the kitchen is a tiled bathroom, with a shower, a bath and a toilet. A dressing room awaits completion. A through lounge (the composer’s former music room). A parental suite, with oak wood parquet flooring, comprises a bedroom, illuminated via two windows, and a second, adjoining room (bedroom or study). A third bedroom features white-painted, exposed joists.
This 27 m² garage is in the right wing.
A 27 m² barn in the right wing houses an oil tank. A second level can be reached via a ladder.
This former 20 m² cheese dairy is divided into two, 10 m² rooms with drying racks.
The left wing also houses this small workshop.
A delightfully pastoral and countrified atmosphere. Both of the gardens are steeped in the charm of yesteryear, but each has its own individual character. Light is omnipresent. The sun successively rising and going down against the horizon sets the sky and the fields aglow, creating a unique show every time. These private premises simply exude happiness created by light and an art of living, making them a wonderful family home.
School buses to state and private schools can be taken from the village.
