character houses for sale in france honfleur

A large, luxurious home and its guest house
in a town centre 20 km from the sea and Le-Havre
Havre, SEINE-MARITIME upper-normandy 76600 FR

This house stands right in the middle of a little Normandy town. Honfleur, 25 km away, can be reached via the famous “Pont de Normandie” bridge. The seaside is to be found at Étretat, 20 km away, and at Deauville, 45 km away. It is but 4 km from a train station with links to Paris-Saint-Lazare on the one hand and Le-Havre on the other. The French capital is less than two hours away by car.

This house most probably dates from the late 19th century. Its brick and quarry stone block façade, with numerous openings, looks out over the central road in the village. Its steep hip roof is covered with slate. A large garage adjoins the residence. A well-concealed, attractive, town garden harbours a guest house at the back. The town centre location has the advantage of being near to all the shops.

The house

This character house adjoins a neighbouring property on one side and a large garage on the other. It spans three levels, not counting the basement. The roof is covered with slate. The main facade, facing the street, features numerous windows. The rear facade looks out over an attractive little walled garden, at the end of which stands a guest house, spanning two levels and awaiting renovation works.

Ground floor
This level comprises a vestibule which provides access to two lounges, a dining room, a kitchen and a reception room. These vast rooms, with their high ceilings, are very bright. The floors are covered with oak wood parquet flooring, cement tiles or marble. Panelling, moulding and fireplaces enhance the lounges and the dining room as well as the entrance hall.
First floor
A hall area provides access to four bedrooms, a bathroom and a 45 m² terrace.
Second floor
This level includes four bedrooms, with sloping ceilings, and an attic awaiting conversion.
Guest house
This small, 2-storey guest house awaits renovation works.
The large cellar houses a boiler room, a laundry room, a workshop and a wine cellar.

Our opinion

The care given to the original decor of this middle-class house is revealed in all kinds of features such as the gable of a roof dormer, the multiple hues of the bricks, the cement tiles with their designs and subtle colours, the ironwork and the stained glass in a door. All of which create a desire to carry out the necessary renovation works, starting with the guest house at the end of the garden. The little town not only has very good communication networks but is also near to some of France’s most famous tourist sites.
