Location
This property, 130 km from Paris, where the borders of the French departments of Orne and Eure meet, stands in the peace and quiet of a little commune in the Risle Valley. The village has two churches, Notre-Dame-Outre-l'Eau, dating from before the 11th century, deemed to be one of the oldest in France, and the 14th century Saint-Germain. It is near to Verneuil-sur-Avre and L'Aigle. A train station with 80-minute links to Paris-Montparnasse is 10 minutes away.
Description
The large, luxurious home
This vast residence is the width of the porch way plus five bays on either side of that of the entrance door, three on one side and two on the other. This provides eight bays on the first floor. Above, the roof features five shed dormers, decreasing in size from the centre outwards whilst alternating oval and rectangular windows.
The outbuildings
On the right hand side of the garden, facing away from the main house, and extending the paving stones of the side porch way, a tall building was once the old stables and still has its mangers. It houses one room, topped with two small bedrooms and an attic. Opposite the porch way is a large wooden garage.
The second building, on the left and connected to the main residence via an old greenhouse, is built of superb bricks, covered with Virginia creeper. This building comprises an exercise room, with a sauna, a shower room and a toilet, as well as three bedrooms and an attic upstairs.
The wash-house that extended this building has been replaced with a large, covered, heated swimming pool, looking out over the garden via numerous wide picture windows.
Our opinion
This large, luxurious home resembles a small chateau. Its outbuildings, given over to residents’ well-being, are equally as aesthetically interesting. The swimming pool, for instance, is installed in the old wash-house, with its large basket-handle openings looking out over the garden. A garden, steeped in charm and out of sight from the street, which acts as a link between the property’s various buildings. The large interior spaces and their layout are proof of the residence’s comfort. The superb brickwork obviously encompasses a wonderful quality of life.
