A large, luxurious home with 7,300 m² of wooded parklands
by the side of the river Cher in the urban area around Tours

Tours, INDRE-ET-LOIRE center-val-de-loire 37000 FR

This property is in the Touraine region, renowned for its architectural, historic, cultural and gastronomic heritage. In the midst of the Loire Valley, classified as a World Heritage site by Unesco, it is but 5 minutes from a motorway slip road, putting Paris just 2½ hours away. Less than 10 minutes from Saint-Pierre-des-Corps TGV train station with its 60-minute links to Paris. This house is also less than 10 minutes from the very centre of Tours, one of those provincial towns with a very pleasant quality of life.
This property, in a quiet, no-through road on the edge of the river Cher, with its completely enclosed, wooded and landscaped parklands, is a verdant haven in the urban area around Tours.

This large, luxurious home, dating from 1911, is out of sight of onlookers. It is built from millstone grit and topped with a slate roof.
It spans a basement, a raised ground floor as well as two upper floors. It can be accessed via two separate sets of gates, each on a different road. The house, standing in the middle of the property, still has all of its authenticity. This wooded site has “propriété remarquable” (outstanding property) classification and has been listed with the Bâtiments-de-France since 2006.

The large, luxurious home

The facade of this impressive, large, luxurious home, made of millstone grit, is adorned with ornamental features and original wrought ironwork. It exudes a unity of style.
A small wooden chalet, a garage, a swimming pool area and a vegetable garden are all to be found in the 7,300 m² of fully enclosed parklands.

The basement comprises a boiler room, a wine cellar and two other cellars used for storage purposes.
Ground floor
The ground floor, with its 3.4 m high ceilings, comprises an entrance hall, with old cement floor tiles, and, on the left-hand side, a double aspect and extremely bright dining room, looking out over the parklands. This room is enhanced with moulding, a rose and original decorative staffs on the ceiling as well as oak wood parquet flooring. On the same side, a fitted kitchen has a back door, protected by a canopy, as well as terracotta floor tiles.
Facing the front door is a central stairway, with black wrought iron railings, and a toilet with a wash-hand basin. On the right-hand side of the entrance hall, a double lounge features parquet flooring and a fireplace as well as ceiling roses and moulding.
This level, with its centralised layout, spans approx. 90 m².

First floor
The stairway goes up to a landing covered with oak wood parquet flooring which leads to a first bedroom with a view of the river Cher. This is followed by a second bedroom, extended by a terrace which overlooks the parklands. A shower room with an Italian-style shower has been installed between these two bedrooms. A third bedroom, with parquet flooring, moulding and a fireplace, communicates with a bathroom, featuring cement floor tiles. Next is a linen room as well as a toilet with a wash-hand basin.
As on the ground floor, the height of the first floor ceilings is 3.4 m.

Second floor
The second floor landing, with pinewood parquet flooring, provides access to four bedrooms, where the walls are painted. Also on this level are a study, a bathroom with a shower and double vanity unit as well as a separate toilet. A turret houses a second entrance from the outside.

The parklands

The 7,300 m² of wooded and landscaped parklands are classified as a “propriété remarquable” (outstanding property) notably because of their extremely beautiful trees, including a Himalaya cedar, an immense magnolia and a one hundred year old plane tree as well as lime and fruit trees amongst others. A vegetable garden, miscellaneous flower beds, roses and lawns all go towards making them useful as well as pleasant. A small wooden chalet is used for storing garden tools. A well (the pump of which was changed in 2015 and feeds an almost new 500-litre, underground tank) is used for watering the garden, via a partially automatic system, and for filling the swimming pool.
These completely enclosed parklands have a lighting system. One set of gates is remote-controlled and the other ready to be so. The tall gates and the perimeter wall on the facade side have been renovated.

A self-contained, 20 m² studio flat, completely separate from the house, comprises one room with a kitchen area and a shower room.
There is also a single-car garage, topped with a small attic, in the parklands.

The swiming pool
The 11x5 m swimming pool, bordered by bamboo is heated and enclosed with safety fencing. The pool liner, the pump and the regulating device were all changed in 2013.

Our opinion

The Belle-Époque knew how to blend style and comfort. The vast, upstairs terrace overlooking the verdant surroundings is supported on sober columns, thus forming a porch way that is most welcoming as is the rest of the house, made particularly pleasant by its original decor. It is immaculately kept, just like the parklands courtesy of which new owners will feel themselves equally well in the country as in the town. The proximity of the TGV train station is yet another asset to be added to the all of the above.
