This house, in the Touraine region, is 2½ hours from Paris, 20 minutes from Tours and 15 minutes from Saint-Pierre-des-Corps TGV train station, with 50-minute links to the French capital. The village has local shops and amenities. The property itself is in a very quiet setting.


This residence, constructed in the late 19th century from local freestone, is topped with an Angers slate roof. It stands in landscaped grounds, spanning more than 3,000 m², completely enclosed by a laurel hedge and remote-controlled wrought iron gates. In addition to a garden and an orchard, this property also includes a 1,000 m² lake. A gravel driveway leads to a car parking area which can take at least four cars.

The large, luxurious home

This residence, featuring the traditional local style with its freestone walls and its slate roof, has a symmetrical facade with three openings on each of the three levels.

Ground floor
On the right-hand side of the entrance hall, set in the centre of the facade, is a lounge, with a closed-hearth fire, followed by a living room, opening on to an outside terrace via a picture window. The decoration, with floor tiles imitating light brown parquet flooring and white-painted walls, reflects a contemporary style.
On the left-hand side of the entrance hall, a vast kitchen is fitted with brilliant black and white units, including a large central unit featuring a black work surface. Fully equipped, it is also resolutely contemporary. The large floor tiles are white to match the painted walls. A door leads from the kitchen out to the garden. An adjoining storeroom-linen room is lined with cupboards. An integrated spotlight lighting system has been installed throughout the ground floor. A separate toilet includes a wash-hand basin.

First floor
A central wooden stairway, with a grey-painted handrail, goes up to the landing which provides access to a first, through bedroom, with parquet flooring and a large, adjoining dressing room.
A bathroom, reflecting black and off-white hues, is fitted with two wash-hand basins, a corner bath and an Italian style shower. The toilet is separate.
Two other bedrooms, of different sizes, have parquet flooring. All the walls are painted satin white. The electric lighting takes the form of integrated spotlights.

Top floor
This top floor is currently an attic, spanning the same surface area as the first floor. It could be converted into a games room or a bedroom.
The garden
The garden, spanning approx. 3,300 m², is predominantly laid out behind the house. Unoverlooked, it is completely enclosed by a laurel hedge. It comprises flower beds, lawns as well as more than sixty trees and shrubs of miscellaneous fruit and ornamental species.
A 1,000 m² lake, abounding in fish, at the end of the grounds will delight fishing enthusiasts.

Garden shed
A lean-to, adjoining the residence, houses a boiler room and a 51 m deep bore-hole. Its submerged pump is used to draw water for the ground floor toilet and the washing machine as well as for watering the garden. A shed is the ideal place for storing garden tools and equipment.

Our opinion

This middle-class home is unpretentious: a plain keystone tops the framing around the ground floor windows whilst sober cornices with corbelling are like eyebrows above the upstairs windows. The contemporary interior and the high level of modern-day home comforts that goes with it date from 2011. Conversion of the vast attic would increase available living space. The garden has been well-thought out, and the lake provides added interest. Given the peace and quiet reigning all around, it is difficult to believe that the capital of the Touraine region is so close.
