This property, standing in the historic centre of Pontoise, is fortunate enough to be within walking distance of shops, schools and a train station (30-minute links to Paris-Saint-Lazare on the RER train line). Furthermore, the countryside is not far courtesy of the nearby French Vexin Regional Nature Park. An abundance of hiking trails is just a 5-minute car drive away.


The foundations of the current residence are very old. They are those of a house which is featured on 17th century maps. In the meantime, a house was constructed between the 1950’s and 1960’s and it is this house which has been totally transformed into today’s contemporary home.

The house

Spanning three levels, this house has a lower section constructed from limestone quarry blocks, typical of the region. The architect’s design was based on the systematic use of good quality wood panels. The roof is entirely covered in plants. All around, the parklands are planted with various species of majestic old trees. A setting that makes using the covered swimming pool, laid out at the foot of the house, even more pleasant.

Ground floor
The door on the ground floor opens into a superb room, under a very high vaulted ceiling, which is actually home to a sauna. The exposed stone, the vault and the bull’s eye windows are all features of the original house’s foundations.
Garden level
A vast stairway, in the entrance hall, goes upstairs to a spacious set of open-plan, communicating rooms that feature picture windows opening on to the garden and the terrace. They are steeped in light all day long.
The kitchen is fully fitted. It opens into the dining room and the lounge, enhanced with a suspended, central wood-burning stove. A fully glazed hall area leads to two bedrooms, one of which has its own shower room.

First floor
A wood and metal stairway, exuding pure lines, goes upstairs to the bedrooms. Here, a landing room on a mezzanine, with parquet flooring, opens on to a wooden terrace via large picture windows. The rooms on this level are laid out around this landing room, with the children’s section on one side, composed of two bedrooms and a bathroom, and the master suite on the other, consisting of a bedroom, a dressing room, a shower room, with a Jacuzzi, and an adjoining private terrace, with a view over the parklands.
The garden
The parklands are entirely enclosed by walls. They are divided into several areas laid out in accordance with the lie of the land. Tall trees regularly planted throughout the grounds provide complete privacy.

Our opinion

Several buildings have succeeded one another on this site. The original foundations, dating from the 17th century, are still in existence and have been cleverly used as has the lie of the land. It has been so well designed that there is something timeless about this ultra-contemporary residence. These two concepts are more than compatible, resulting in pure lines, well-designed openings and rooms that follow one on from the other perfectly. The terraces are yet another asset as are the colours, white successfully blending with grey and red whilst the stairways are airy. Light floods in from every side. Verdant parklands are omnipresent through picture windows.
