This traditional, long farmhouse is about 2¾ hours from Paris via the A10 motorway. It is 20 minutes to the south-east of Tours and 15 minutes from Saint-Pierre-des-Corps TGV train station, with its 55-minute links to Paris.
Set in quiet countrified surroundings, this property is part of a village which has most local shops and amenities.
It is entered via wrought iron gates and a gravel driveway.

Description

This traditional, long farmhouse, typical of the area around Tours, stands in the centre of its 2,000 m², fully enclosed and landscaped grounds. Built at the end of the 19th century, this old farmhouse has a great deal of living space. It is completed by an adjoining barn and by a completely independent outbuilding, standing at right angles, which is also habitable. A swimming pool has been installed in the garden.

The traditional, long farmhouse

This building, spanning almost 220 m² of living space, is constructed from lime rendered quarry stone blocks. Local freestone has been used for the framing around the doors and windows as well as the cornices. This traditional, long farmhouse comprises an upstairs under the old-fashioned gable roof, predominantly composed of traditional tiles with a low slate fascia. The south side features two shed dormers. A wrought iron canopy protects the front door.


Ground floor
The front door opens into a double living room, with taupe-grey floor tiles, some exposed stone walls and others painted white. The stone fireplace houses a closed-hearth fire. This room communicates with an outdoor terrace.
A large kitchen, in the centre of the house, has an independent entrance. Fully fitted, its walls are painted with white gloss. The work top on the central unit is taupe in colour. A glazed panel between the living room and the kitchen adds an extremely contemporary touch.
The vast lounge opens via a large French window on to a second terrace which, with grey tiles, faces south. It features exposed stone walls as well as some exposed ceiling beams. The floor is covered with large, taupe-coloured tiles. This lounge enhances a contemporary stairway constituting a central stringer, a bare steel handrail and oak-wood coloured steps. A first door leads from this room to a barn, currently used as a garage, which could be converted. A second door provides access to a wine cellar. A solid wood door under the stairway opens into a linen room.

First floor
All the walls on this level are painted white. A first stairway leads to a little attic and to a landing which provides access to a first bedroom, with light-coloured, oak wood parquet flooring and exposed ceiling beams. It has two dressing rooms and a bathroom, with a toilet. A second bedroom, with light-coloured, stratified parquet flooring, adjoins a dressing room and is reached via the landing for the second stairway which also leads to a shower room, a separate toilet and a third bedroom, with light-brown coloured, stratified parquet flooring and a dressing room.

The outbuilding

This completely habitable and independent outbuilding stands at right angles to the traditional farmhouse. Spanning a single storey of approx. 40 m², it comprises a living room, with a fitted kitchen area, a bedroom, with a storage cupboard, a shower room and a separate toilet. It features grey floor tiles throughout, with white walls on the inside and lime-pointed exposed stone walls outside. The roof is covered with traditional tiles.

The garden and the swimming pool

The garden is entirely enclosed by an exposed stone wall along the roadside and by an informal hedge at the rear of the property.
Reached via two sets of wrought iron gates, this landscaped garden comprises flower beds and lawns as well as ornamental shrubs and bushes. The white gravel driveway, bordering the house, leads to a small carpark.
A heated swimming pool, 4.20 m wide and 8.50 m long, is set in the centre of the garden. Constructed from stone, a small machine room houses the heat pump.
A small outdoor lean-to adjoining the farmhouse protects a well, ideal for watering purposes.

Our opinion

The lime-pointed exposed stone walls, under a tile roof, reflect the classical model for rural Touraine architecture. Renovation works were carried out in 2012 in keeping with these principles. Conversely, a resolutely contemporary style was chosen for the interior, with the subtle effects of colours in harmony with the old, enhanced features. The level of modern-day home comforts is as high as that of the aesthetics. And it could prove very useful to have a small independent house in a region that attracts tourists all through the summer.
