A 16th & 17th century, traditional, long farmhouse
in landscaped parklands 15 minutes from Tours
, INDRE-ET-LOIRE center-val-de-loire FR

Location

Three hours from Paris, this property is in a small town with most shops and amenities in the urban area around Tours. A TGV train station, with 60-minute links to Paris, is 10 minutes away.
This fully enclosed property stands in a peaceful, totally unoverlooked setting.

Description

The main north-south facing house is near to the property entrance. It is constructed from local freestone and topped with a roof covered with traditional tiles. The parklands and the swimming pool are on the south side.
A single-storey wing is set at right angles. This orangery, almost fully glazed on its west side, is topped with a slate roof. It opens on to a terrace, extended by the parkland lawns and the swimming pool.

The traditional, long farmhouse

The residence extends from east to west across the width of the property. Its tall windows and its French windows are numerous. The roof features several shed dormers, characteristic of this type of architecture.
A first wing, running southwards, houses an extremely luminous orangery whilst a second wing on the north side is used as a garage.
All three buildings intercommunicate.

Ground floor
The ground floor, with its exposed beams and its Italian stone floors, comprises a main entrance hall, housing a wooden stairway. On the left-hand side, a double living room, spanning approx. 60 m², is enhanced with a dressed stone fireplace and a door leading directly out into the garden.
On the right-hand side of the entrance hall, a dining room immediately makes a warm impression courtesy of its fireplace and its ochre-coloured walls.
It precedes a large, fully fitted kitchen, notably featuring a central unit. The original terracotta floor tiles have been preserved.
A stairway in the kitchen, which communicates with a laundry room, a shower room and the garage, goes down to a vaulted cellar. A last door provides access to the orangery, a building in itself, all on a level with a terrace. Its cathedral ceiling reveals the exposed trusses of the roofing framework. Four French windows let in copious amounts of daylight. Pastoral frescoes decorate the wall facing them and the floor is covered with large old terracotta tiles. The parklands and the swimming pool are like an extension of the terrace.

First floor
A hall area provides access to four bedrooms, with their cupboards. Two dressing rooms have been created. A toilet, a shower room and a large bathroom, with red and white marbled tiles, two wash-hand basins, an Italian style shower and a spa bath.

The landscaped parklands and the swimming pool

Wooded and landscaped parklands extend on the south side of this property, completely enclosed by a thick hedge. Spanning approx. 2,700 m², they comprise verdant lawns, courtesy of a well on the property, various species of trees (fruit, weeping willow, umbrella pine and magnolia), ornamental bushes (tamarisk, boxwood) and flower beds.
A gravel driveway leads from the white-painted, wrought iron gates to a wooden carport, able to accommodate one car.
The 11 m long by 5 m wide, heated swimming pool, installed in the centre of the parklands, is out of sight of onlookers. It is fitted with a solar rolling safety cover.

Our opinion

The local freestone immediately exudes elegance courtesy of the monochrome hues and regularity of the stone. This impression is enhanced by little decorative features such as moulded framing around the openings and triangular pediments on the shed dormers. There is no doubt that it will be much appreciated by guests especially as this family residence, near to the large, beautiful town of Tours and its TGV train station, appears to have been made for hosts. Nature abounds, not only behind the large glazed arcades of the orangery, but also as frescoes on the wall facing them. It is yet another of the assets of this property, as refined outside as it is inside.
