Location
The property is located between the Munster and Kaysersberg valleys, in one of the many hamlets that make up the town of Labaroche, perched on a plateau at an average altitude of 730 metres. Essential shops for daily life, services, restaurants and farmhouse-inns are all located nearby, while several picturesque villages along the Alsace wine route, including Kaysersberg, are less than 10 minutes away. Description
The Dwelling
Facing southeast, the two-storey house’s exteriors are coated in white plaster, while its interior is bathed in ample sunlight thanks to its wide sliding glass doors and double-glazed picture windows.
The ground floor
The house’s front door opens onto the large living area of approximately 70 m², which includes, on the left, the living room with direct access to the exterior patio, four wide picture windows facing southeast towards the surrounding mountains, as well as, on the right, the dining area and an open kitchen in need of completion. An interior separation wall, glazed on its upper half, provides light for the kitchen area, while a wood-burning stove in the dining area is capable of heating the entire room. Last, but not least, towards the back of this main room, three doors open onto a bedroom facing south, a shower room and a lavatory, respectively.
The upstairs
At the top of the staircase, the landing provides access to a bedroom under tall and sloping wood-panelled ceilings, while a sliding glass door opens onto the roof terrace with views of the garden and, in the distance, the Vosges Mountains. Lastly, this floor also includes a shower room with a lavatory and two washbasins.
The Storeroom
Located along the dwelling’s western exterior, this space is used to store equipment and wood.
The Garden
Below the patio and surrounded by wooded land, the garden’s main centrepiece is a walnut tree that provides natural shade in the summer, as well as a grove of Mirabelle plum trees on its lower section, while bunches of reeds, related to the dwelling’s natural wastewater treatment system, grow on the garden’s western side.
Our opinion
This one-of-a-kind dwelling, sheltered from all visual and auditory disturbances, enjoys timeless views of the Vosges Mountains, while its bucolic and alpine spirit can be felt throughout the property, ideal for relaxation and contemplation. In addition, the feeling of space, both inside and outside, surrounded by a calming and rejuvenating rural environment, creates the perfect refuge for those wanting to live out in the country, but still within proximity to the amenities of a city with a high-speed rail station.
