In the French department of Côtes-d'Armor, not far from Saint-Brieuc, with its 2⅓ hour, TGV train-links to Paris. In the midst of surroundings ideal for water and other sports (beaches, walks exploring the 30 km of coastal paths, 250 km of marked hiking trails, sailing, golf, etc.). Not far from a market town near the sea with all amenities and schools just a few minutes away. Peace and quiet reigns over the immediate surroundings composed of grasslands with a few other residences to the north.


A no-through lane, turning off a little road, leads to one of two entrances on the south side of this property. Once through the gates, visitors discover a courtyard, formed by the manor house and its outbuildings. Another entrance, on the north side of this property, provides direct access to the rear of the manor house. This walled property is extended on the west and north sides by gardens, including a space big enough on the west side to accommodate horses. On the south side, a private, 300 m long bridle path leads to the property’s third entrance.

The manor house

Numerous eras mark the architectural evolution of this manor house. The main building, constructed from granite quarry stone blocks topped with a slate roof, dates from the 19th century in its central south-facing section and from the 17th century in the section set at right angles on the east side. The central building, standing at the end of the closed courtyard, is flanked by round two towers, built outside of the carcass and dating from the 14th and 18th centuries. This manor house spans 430 m² of living space over three levels, under an attic floor and above cellars. It has two independent flats on the west side.

Ground floor
This level can be accessed via the four sides of the manor house, the main entrance being on the south side at the top of a flight of steps. Spanning more than 150 m², it comprises a 50 m² lounge-dining room, with a wood-burning stove, a kitchen, a second lounge, with a fireplace, two studies, one of which is in one of the towers. The second tower houses a storage area for equestrian equipment.
The floors are covered with parquet flooring or flagstones. A central stairway provides access to the cellars and the upper floors. A second, spiral stairway provides access to the section set at right angles. A cloakroom area is laid out on a lower half-floor.

First floor
This landing leads, on one side, to a bedroom, with a shower room and toilet, and, on the other, to a vast bathroom, with a dressing room, followed by a 30 m² bedroom, as well as a study in the east tower. The second stairway provides access to a third bedroom as well as a toilet. The first independent flat is reached via a stairway going up the west gable. It comprises a living room with an open-plan kitchen, a bedroom in the tower, a shower room and a toilet. It could easily be made to communicate with the rest of this floor for little cost.
Second floor
As on the first floor, this landing leads to a bedroom, with a shower room, and a bigger, 60 m² bedroom, with a bathroom in the east tower. A sixth bedroom, with a mezzanine in the attic space and a bathroom on a half-floor, can be reached via the stairway in the section set at right angles. On the west side, a second independent flat comprises a living room, with an open-plan kitchen, a bedroom in the tower, as well as a shower room with a toilet.
Three cellars, one of which spans approx. 60 m², take up the full floor surface area of the main building. They house a boiler-laundry room as well as a wine cellar.

The outbuildings

The outbuildings comprise several adjoining buildings, set at right angles on either side of the manor house so as to form a closed courtyard. On the west side are five different areas comprising two storerooms, two reserves under attics, as well as a 2-storey guest house. Facing them, on the east side of the courtyard, are three garage and storage areas. Further to the west are three horse loose boxes and two enclosed paddocks.

On the west side, in addition to the guest house, are two storage areas and two storerooms, used for storing garden tools amongst other things.
Guest house
A guest house, in the building on the west side, comprises a through living room with an open-plan kitchen on the ground floor and three bedrooms as well as a bathroom, with a toilet, upstairs.
Two garages and a workshop are on the east side.
The stables
Three horse loose boxes, with a water supply laid on, automatic drinking troughs and two enclosed paddocks, with wooden rails and electrification.

Our opinion

The architectural whims of successive eras have found their way on to the robust walls of the manor house. It is now a vast, extremely comfortable residence, extended by two, currently independent flats and annex buildings that do not spoil the overall effect. A daring, external stairway adds a somewhat theatrical air. A medieval fireplace is supported on terms, featuring two glyphs. In short, there is much to discover here, not only for residents but also for horses, starting with a quality of life, a very convincing foretaste of which has been provided by the region.
