Description

This 16th century house and its two outbuildings are surrounded by miscellaneous gardens.
The property is reached off a country lane via an elegant alleyway, bordered by young, immaculately trimmed trees.
The walls of the main, plain facade are constructed from hewn quarry stone blocks.
The two pediment roof dormers on the front facade stand out courtesy of their strict alignment, as opposed to the dressed stone-framed openings, added over the years.
Two wide chimney stacks on the gable ends sit astride the slate roof, its two slopes connected by a ridge.
The rear facade relates more about the character and history of the premises. A central, round, internal tower is flanked up to the first floor by two later additions of different heights that increase the useful floor surface area inside.
The outbuildings comprise a long, quarry stone block building which has been partially converted into living space. A workshop and storage areas are on the ground floor with an outside wooden stairway providing access to an attic with great conversion potential.
A third building, certainly more recent and smaller in size, is also perfectly converted into living space. It, too, is constructed from quarry stone blocks, topped with a slate roof.

The manor house

The main room and its large kitchen both have Valogne stone floors.
An impressive but unpretentious fireplace is set in the gable wall. A straight chimney breast, a stone lintel and a slight cornice are supported on internal jambs.
The ceiling has exposed joists, resting on a large central beam.
The large, fully-fitted kitchen is followed by a vestibule as well as a laundry room and a door leading out to the garden.
The stone tower houses a solid newel, spiral stairway, providing access to the upper floors.
On the first floor, the main bedroom features a fireplace with similar characteristics to that in the large room below it.
The square terracotta floor tiles, obviously recuperated, are laid diagonally.
The second bedroom on this level also has a fireplace in the same style but as the rendering has been removed from the chimney breast, the stone underneath is exposed. It also has strip pattern, fir wood parquet flooring. There are two modern bathrooms.

The two external living areas comprise two additional bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and bathroom. Both are in pristine condition.

The grounds

The grounds span more than 8,000 m². Set between the street and the outbuildings, a large area laid to lawn features four central boxwood squares united by a Medici vase on a stone base.
Set between the residence and the outbuilding, a lake is surrounded by fruit trees and lawns.
And to preserve its environment, opposite the little country lane providing access to the manor house, a plot of land enables domestic animals to gambol.

Our opinion

This is a property to make life easy; fully renovated with the works perfectly carried out. Its profitability has been proved and provided that the new owners meet the approval of the gardener and the caretaker of the premises they will have little to worry about before or after a family stay. The property is so well laid out and so well managed that paying guests go unnoticed whether they stay for a week or just a weekend.
This property, lovingly restored by its recent residents who spared no expense, is in an excellent state of repair.
