Location

This property, in the midst of the Touraine region, renowned for its architectural, historic, cultural and gastronomic heritage, is but three hours from Paris by car. In the Indre valley, it is 25 minutes from Tours TGV train station, with its one-hour links to the French capital. On the verdant heights of a pretty village, it is in a quiet, residential district where tranquillity and natural surroundings take pride of place. A semi-private road leads to wrought iron gates and to a gravel courtyard in the centre of which stands a superb lime tree.

Description

This manor house has known illustrious owners, including a former mayor of Tours who was also advisor to the king. Spanning four levels from the basement up to the second floor, it stands in the centre of the fully enclosed property, which also comprises a large garage and an annex building as well as a vine-grower’s cottage. A large, gravel courtyard, on either side of the manor house, is adorned with flower beds and landscaped parklands with an ornamental pool. This extremely comfortable home has been fully renovated.

The manor house

This manor house features exposed stone facades and a slate roof. It comprises a basement, a ground floor and two upper floors, the top one of which, under the sloping roof, provides extensive views over the countrified surroundings. A turret, flanking the south facade, houses the bathroom and toilet facilities.
The classical architecture includes two dressed stone shed dormers and numerous openings of varying sizes.


Basement
The basement is an old vaulted cellar where a 4.4x6.5, heated, salt water swimming pool has been installed. There are also showers and a toilet. It can be reached from the ground floor via the stairway or via a lift.
Ground floor
The entrance hall houses a cloakroom and the lift. The floor of a through living room, on the right-hand side, is laid with slate and rock stone in a chessboard pattern. It features a sculpted stone fireplace, in good working order, and white-leaded ceiling beams. This living room opens on to a large, south-facing terrace. It extends into a fully fitted, glossy red kitchen, with a central cooking unit, which is extremely functional. The turret comprises a toilet with a wash-hand basin and storage areas.
First floor
This level is reached via the spiral stairway or via the lift. The landing provides access to two bedrooms, with parquet flooring and cupboards. A bathroom with a toilet is installed in the turret.
Second floor
The landing on the second floor, with its sloping ceilings, leads to two bedrooms with cupboards. A shower room with a toilet has been installed in the turret.
Outbuilding
An outbuilding, all on a level with the garden, comprises a bedroom, a living room and a shower room with a toilet.
Garage
The garage, spanning approx. 100 m², has been fully renovated. Its ground level, with concrete flooring, can take up to four parked cars. An oak wood stairway goes up to an insulated attic, spanning the same floor surface area and awaiting conversion. The sliding door is remote-controlled.
The parklands
The parklands, spanning approx. 4,000 m², are completely landscaped and enclosed by a thick hedge. They include lawns, flower and rose beds, fruit trees (cherry, walnut, fig, etc.), ornamental trees (magnolia, lilac, cypress, palm, etc.), a vegetable garden in raised, square planters and a little ornamental pool.
The property is reached via a gravel courtyard, featuring a central lime tree and flower beds, fitted with an automatic watering system and integrated lighting.
There are also a well and a small vine-grower’s cottage on the left-hand side of the wrought iron entrance gates.

Our opinion

Water is featured both inside and outside of this manor house as residents simply have to go down to the basement to relax in the swimming pool or to go out into the parklands to appreciate the ornamental pool, enhanced by flowers. It is a way of resuming the property’s attraction between its contemporary conversions and its venerable architecture such as this corner tower, topped with a candlesnuffer roof. It is also a way of explaining just how well the renovation works have been carried out, the results satisfying all the wishes of a family in search of comfort and a peaceful atmosphere.
