In the midst of a little town bordered to the south by the river Loire, the course of which runs through a wide valley fashioned over centuries. In the shadow of one of the region’s famous chateaux, a superb example of the architecture between the Medieval and Renaissance eras. Near to the renowned Bourgueil vineyard, in undulating countryside, dotted with vines and forests.
Between stronghold houses and Seigneuries, churches and ruins, all bearing witness to a rich historic past.
Within easy reach of Tours as well as the area around Paris.
The setting is peaceful and the surroundings verdant.

Description

The origins of the place are first mentioned in certain documents recounting the history of the Franks, where the town is cited as one of the first rural parishes founded in the Touraine region in the last quarter of the 4th century.
The history of the property is closely linked to that of the nearby church and chateau. It was once within the nearby chateau’s perimeter wall and was also home to the chaplain, which explains the existence of an old chapel.
Only a few period features remain today, despite the fact that the property has been fairly well preserved and currently comprises various buildings from a later period.
This property, a short distance from the centre of the market town and around a bend in a little, quiet road, is accessed through large gates.
The manor house, facing the entrance and preceded by a courtyard, stands in the centre of the property.
On one side, a lean-to, in use as a garage, is followed by a garden enhanced with rose bushes. At the end is a little gardener’s cottage.
On the other side, facing the perimeter wall featuring several troglodytic cavities, are a caretaker’s cottage and, a little further on, a vast barn.
There are a total of three barns, covered areas or lean-tos, including a woodshed.
Further on, extends a wide garden laid to lawn, a lovely, pleasant stretch of greenery on the outskirts of the town.
With a large, main, wooded courtyard, where wisteria and other roses bloom in abundance, a vegetable garden and an orchard.
A little river flows past in the background.
This property is surrounded by enclosed, wooded parklands spanning almost 8,000 m².
The surrounding area comprises just a few gardens and houses in the market town, most of which are concealed.
Beyond this, the road continues into the countryside, its landscapes pastoral and wooded with several forests in the distance.

The manor house

Constructed in the 15th century, but greatly redesigned in the 19th century, this private manor house was protected by a perimeter wall, built of rubble stone, a remaining portion of which on the east side is flanked by a round tower with a candlesnuffer roof.
Near to this tower was a semi-circular arched postern which is now condemned.
On the south side, the building features an octagonal tower, housing a spiral stairway.
A paved access path precedes an outstanding, wide, carved wooden door, enhanced with a basket-handle stone archway.
Above, the various walls of the tower feature several small openings.
These windows are topped with a depressed stone arch, glazed with stained glass.
The left-hand facade features mullioned windows.
On the upper section of the gable is a small bell.
The other section, on the right-hand side, is a more recent extension of the building.
This property was once home to the chaplain of the nearby chateau.
According to legend, a secret underground passageway once linked the chateau and this old house of the king’s prior.
Bearing witness to history, this residence has not only been home to the chaplain, but also a boarding school for young girls and even a hospital, before quite simply becoming a family home.
The remains of the old chapel, including murals and other vestiges of the past, are still in existence.
The main building spans approx. 350 m² of living space over three levels, comprising twelve rooms, topped with attics.
The basement includes cellars and outbuildings.
The interior layout is however somewhat dated and works will have to be scheduled.
On either side are miscellaneous outbuildings.
The building faces south.

The ground floor has five different reception rooms, including a large, 60 m² room, with a very high ceiling, and a dining room.
A kitchen, a pantry and a toilet.

First floor
Upstairs, a corridor provides access to a lounge and five bedrooms, with two bathrooms and a toilet.
Second floor
On this level are the old chapel, a room and attics which could be converted.
Cellar
Five cellars are hewn in the rock.

An unusual building, steeped in history, whose residents have preserved a certain authenticity despite carrying out moderate restoration works.
An ideal location, near to the capital of the Touraine region, in a quiet and picturesque market town, immersed in the beauty and charm of the surrounding countryside.
This is a wonderful opportunity to make good use of the additional space in the outbuildings, in the midst of pleasant, wooded parklands, spanning a reasonable surface area that is easy to maintain.
