The manor house
This manor house was constructed in the 14th century on the foundations of a 12th century tithe barn. Rectangular in shape, it is built of stone and spans two levels topped with a slate, gable roof with upward curving eaves. It is adjoined, on its south gable wall, by a tower topped with a slate gable roof, on its north gable wall, by a bread oven and, on its east facade, by a small single-storey, half-timbered building, topped with a single-slope, slate roof. The centre of the west facade has a polygonal stairway tower, featuring a steep roof with breaks. On either side, two gable roof dormers are adorned with a finial at the top and chimera at the bottom. All the windows feature stone mullions. A dovecote, with its dove-holes, is incorporated into the wall on this same facade. The manor house is entered via a door on one side of the stairway tower. Both this manor house and its underground shelter below the house are listed.
The outbuildings comprise:
A barn, spanning a ground surface area of approx. 150 m², with a garage section, a stable section and a large attic.
A small building currently in use as a henhouse and a boiler room.
A recent greenhouse in a good state of repair.
This manor house bears great witness to the rural defensive architecture of the 14th century. Thus, it was very important that the restoration works which added modern day home comforts did not change it in any way. Both the outside and the inside are a good balance between its clearly obvious authenticity and its reasonable size which immediately encourages visitors to purchase it. Set in this countryside which, although nuisance-free, has good communication routes and is crossed by the peaceful rivers of the Anjou region, it could equally well be used as a highly desirable main residence, a holiday home or for a tourist activity.
