Description

In superb parklands, where lush vegetation is accompanied by the shimmering water of an arm of the Grand-Morin river, this old flour mill spans its millrace which, a little further on, is bordered by an old wash-house.
An orchard can be found at the end of the parklands.
A moving, tiny chapel stands next to the mill.
An outbuilding is set at right angles to the mill.

The mill

Constructed from stone, it features numerous windows with blue-painted shutters. All the openings are double-glazed. The roof, redone in 2010, is covered with flat tiles and features pediment roof dormers.
The impression of authenticity exuded by the building is enhanced by the clearly robust carcass which is in a good state of repair.
The mill is entered via the courtyard. Behind the building, a level, terrace area, with a parapet laden with multi-coloured flowers that once topped the wheel and the turbines, now looks down on to the millstream.
Above this terrace, a large covered patio, has a lovely view of the river and its natural surroundings.


Ground floor
A small entrance hall, housing a solid oak wood stairway going upstairs. A dining room with a fireplace. A through lounge, with oak wood parquet flooring, is laid out above the sluice gates. It is extended by the terrace with a view over the millrace. A spacious, fully fitted kitchen, a back kitchen with an old bread oven. The first of the guest bedrooms used for a bed & breakfast activity is all on a level with a shower room (Italian-style shower) and a toilet. A workshop and cellars.
First floor
On the guest bedroom side: a through bedroom with a fireplace, currently in use as a lounge, opens on to the covered patio with a view of the river. Another bedroom, with parquet flooring and a shower room. A master suite with a bedroom, a study, a bathroom and a toilet. A bedroom, with parquet flooring, a shower room with an Italian-style shower and a toilet. A bedroom with a terrace and a lounge opening on to the patio. In the private section of the mill: two bedrooms, a study, a shower room with an Italian-style shower, two wash-hand basins and a toilet.

The chapel

Although extremely small, this chapel stands proudly next to the mill. A chapel where the village children were once taught their catechism, it bears witness to the ecclesiastical origin of the property which was purchased from a religious congregation. It features two impressive stained-glass windows, one of which takes up almost an entire wall.

The outbuilding

This 200 m² building includes a 40 m², tiled, multi-purpose room in pristine condition, with water and electricity laid on.
Two small barns and a 2-car garage.

Our opinion

Mills have always been appealing. They create dreams that appear to be straight out of a fairy story. The chapel, illuminated by its two stained-glass windows with their brilliant colours, provides an ethereal touch to the property which nevertheless has more “earthly” advantages with its immaculately decorated guest bedrooms used for a bed & breakfast activity, its cheerful, bright lounges, a vast, 40 m² multi-purpose area and barns.
Here, nature is an integral part of the property: it defines its very essence.
