Location

The village of Barbizon, some 50 km away from the French capital with a slip road leading directly on to the A6 motorway, is known the world over for having formed the background in the painting “L'Angélus” (The Angelus) by Jean-François-Millet whose artist’s studio can still be visited today. Barbizon was a place of inspiration and work for many artists, poets and landscape painters who, at the end of the 19th century, used the local countryside and Fontainebleau forest for their plein-air painting. The famous “Barbizon School” was founded.
The main street, forming the backbone of the village, is lined with local shops, galleries, boutiques and several good restaurants where it is pleasant to eat.

Description

This rectangular plot is entered via wide wooden gates that open on to a parking area, able to take several cars, bordered by plants. It precedes the main, L-shaped house, followed, beyond a terrace still to be created, by a second building that has use of the back garden, in which stands a little wooden chalet.

The main house

This residence spans approx. 175 m² of living space over two levels and a basement. Its white, rendered facades are dotted with small-paned windows and French windows under a roof topped with flat tiles and featuring skylights.


Ground floor
The entrance hall provides access, right, to a spacious lounge-dining room, enhanced by a fireplace. Opening into a kitchen, it spans a total floor surface area of approx. 55 m². On the left-hand side is a bedroom, with a shower room and a separate toilet. Straight on is a shower room with a toilet, a stairway going upstairs and down to the basement, followed by another bedroom.
First floor
This floor has sloping ceilings. A vast landing provides access to a large bedroom, with a bathroom and toilet, and to another bedroom, with a shower room, a toilet and a little room.
Basement
The basement can also be accessed from the outside. It is divided into a linen room, a wine cellar and a boiler room.

The open-plan flat

The walls and the gable on the upper level of this rectangular building look widely out over the outside via wide picture windows. It spans approx. 100 m² of living space.


Ground floor
This floor comprises a large lounge-dining room-kitchen area, a shower room and a toilet, all spanning a total floor surface area of approx. 70 m².
First floor
A large bedroom has been laid out on a mezzanine floor.

Our opinion

The magic of the landscapes surrounding Barbizon is still very much alive. Those living in this little town benefit from the aesthetic pleasure of taking walks and of contemplation as well as from the ease of the daily way of life. In such a sought-after setting, one of the two houses could easily be rented, the open-plan flat and its garden for instance, if a family settles in the other which is already laid out for receiving guests. Any option is possible, the main assets remaining the proximity of the French capital and the quality of life on the edge of the immense Fontainebleau forest.
