on the Blue Coast between Estaque and Martigues
This property, 30 km from the town of Marseille, its airport and its TGV train station, is in the village of Sausset-les-Pins. A family seaside resort surrounded by pine groves and scrubland, it is laid out along the seafront with its succession of little inlets, white pebbly beaches and minuscules creeks. Very quiet during the off season, the village is extremely lively during the summer months and tourists can enjoy water sports as well as sporting and cultural activities. The seaside resort is part of the marine park on the Blue Coast which borders the rocky Estaque mountain range. An old customs footpath winds its way between Marseille and Martigues. Spanning 5 km, the easy to access coastal path (the GR51 long-distance hiking trail) is a succession of panoramic views over the Bay of Marseille and its islets.
Recently fully renovated, this villa was designed to let in copious amounts of daylight and to give extensive views of the sea. It comprises four separate areas. The terrace and the area around the swimming pool are near to the lounge, opening widely on to the outside, and to the covered outdoor eating area. The heated swimming pool is fitted with a counter-current swim feature. The garden, surrounding the buildings, is planted with vegetation typical of Mediterranean landscapes.
The villa’s front door opens into a very bright vestibule. Facing the entrance hall, a glazed patio with arched windows forms a small central atrium, a clever lightwell that illuminates the entrance hall, a lounge, a dining room, a kitchen and the stairway. The lounge, on one side of the entrance hall, looks out over the swimming pool, with the Mediterranean Sea in the distance, through wide French windows. It communicates with the dining room which is also steeped in light via a sliding French window. Enhanced via a large, open-hearth fireplace, this room provides access to the covered outdoor eating area. Two windows on the west gable and a large window overlooking the patio also let in light. It is followed by the fully fitted kitchen with its bar, two windows and a French window opening on to the garden and its summer kitchen. The master bedroom, taking up the rear section of the ground floor, is naturally illuminated via a French window opening on to the garden and the summer kitchen. A large, adjoining bathroom, a laundry room and a storage room complete this section of the house. A corridor bordering the fourth side of the patio communicates with the entrance hall. It leads to a bedroom, which opens on to the garden on the rear facade via a French window. The corridor then leads to a shower room with a toilet and an area used as a boiler room. A suite comprises a bedroom with a lounge-study area and a spa bath-shower room. This suite has a view over the sea and the swimming pool via three windows including a French window. The ground floor is laid with terracotta floor tiles. The lounge, the dining room as well as the bedroom are enhanced with exposed beams, painted with wood sealant.
A stairway goes up from the vestibule to a vast landing that provides access to three bedrooms. Two bedrooms open on to a terrace with a view of the sea. A bathroom and a shower room.
A flat laid out on the first floor is completely independent. It is reached via an outside stairway going up the rear facade on the garden side. It comprises a living room, with a fully fitted kitchen area, a bedroom and a shower room with a toilet. The living room opens on to a terrace with a sea view.
The swimming pool
The 60 m² (12x5 m) swimming pool is heated via a heat pump. It has a counter-current swim feature and massage nozzles. Fitted with a salt electrolysis purification and filtration system, it draws the light to its blue mosaic walls. It also has an anti-freeze-safety cover and a free-standing, semi-circular cover, the retractable sections of which slide by pushing and can be stored in the shelter adjoining the machine room.
The Provencal garden
A gravel driveway leads from the remote-controlled gates to the villa. A small pavement, paved with pointed stone and illuminated via modern spotlights, runs alongside this driveway. On either side are flower beds and shrubs. An area facing the sea has been laid to lawn. The garden is planted with several lemon trees, covered with fruit steeped in the winter sun, flowering shrubs, miscellaneous species and cypress trees. Bougainvillaea climbs up the walls.
This property is ideally constructed facing the Blue Coast. All the villa’s many rooms have sea views. The swimming pool, bordered by its deck, the large terrace and the outdoor eating area are but invitations to enjoy the garden. The house, with its bright, spacious indoor areas, its guest area and its self-contained flat, guarantees its residents convivial moments shared with family and friends. With its air of the French Riviera, the seaside resort still exudes a family atmosphere and offers all water sports. Golf and tennis enthusiasts can practice their respective sports just 500 m from the property. The surrounding fragrant hills, scrubland and pine groves are wonderful places to go on outings. The marked trails are ideal for hiking, cycling or horse-riding.
