An hour’s car drive to the south-west of Paris, 4 km from a slip road for the A11 motorway, 4 km also from a train station with 70-minute links to Paris-Montparnasse, 7 km from Chartres train station with 60-minute links to the French capital, 35 minutes from Rambouillet and less than an hour from Versailles. The village with a thousand or so inhabitants is in wooded, unspoilt surroundings in the immediate vicinity of the town of Chartres.

Description

The village is built around a tributary of the river Eure. This property stands on the heights, in hillside parklands. It comprises three houses. The main one, featuring a Directoire style, has two square towers flanking a central, two-storey building with a slate roof. A peristyle entrance porch was added in the 20th century. A single storey set at right angles at the back ends with an open, summer eating area. A wide terrace on the first floor looks out over the parklands, the swimming pool and the pool-house.
A guest house stands facing the main building from the other side of the paved courtyard and the entrance gate. It spans a single storey, topped with attic space, and also has a slate roof.
A second set of remote controlled gates provides access to a carport for three cars and the caretaker’s cottage.
The landscaped garden alternates lawns, parterres, hedges, copses and tall trees.

The Directoire style house

A peristyle entrance porch provides access to a lounge, with a fireplace, and a dining room, preceding a kitchen. A glazed opening in the facade illuminates the eating area in the kitchen which provides access to a laundry room and a cold room. An extension comprises a toilet and a first bedroom, followed by a second bedroom, with a bathroom and separate toilet, as well as a study.
Upstairs, a corridor provides access to three bedrooms and a bathroom with a toilet. A terrace can be reached from the bedrooms.

The guest house

An entrance hall opens into a lounge, a dining room, a kitchen, a first bedroom and a toilet. The attic space has been converted and a landing leads to two bedrooms and a bathroom with a toilet.

The caretaker’s cottage

A front door opens directly into a lounge and a kitchen. A bedroom and a bathroom with a toilet are separate. A mezzanine provides an additional sleeping area.

The pool-house

A small shed behind the swimming pool houses the pool filtration system as well as a shower and a changing room.

The carport

This open garage is designed to take three cars. It comprises two closed areas for storing garden tools.

The swimming pool

The 10x6 m swimming pool is fitted with a heat pump. A wooden terrace is used as its deck.

The cellars

There are two separate cellars, one of which is ideal for laying down wine.

Our opinion

This residence has an air of a small manor house which, whilst wishing to keep its status, also wants to nestle unnoticed amongst the trees and flowers. Set in a landscaped garden, cleverly kept natural, several small buildings vie with each other for the most charm. One of them houses a caretaking couple who watch over the main residence which is a holiday home for the current owners and is rented out from time to time. This arrangement has many advantages. Although, given the proximity of Chartres and Paris, new owners might prefer to live here all year round instead of exploiting this source of income.
