A 19th century, large, luxurious home in 1.7 ha of parklands
twenty minutes from Vendôme
, LOIR-ET-CHER center-val-de-loire FR

A little less than 3 hours from Paris and 20 minutes from Vendôme, with its TGV train station and 40-minute links to Montparnasse. Not even 2 km from a market town, its amenities and its shops. In the Loir Valley in the Gâtine-Tourangelle region. On the outskirts of a small town with more than 4,000 inhabitants as well as a wealth of heritage and cultural events. In the midst of gently undulating countryside bordering the meanders of the river Loir, a verdant region carpeted with grasslands, fields, woods and vines.

This property stands in the suburbs separated from the little town by large, cultivated plots. A long stone wall, bordered by lime trees, features pillars, topped with lights and flanking wrought iron gates. The latter, brought from a Parisian mansion house, open on to a gravel driveway that leads to the cellars. A few steps, on the left-hand side of this driveway, go up towards the large, luxurious house and its terrace. Another flight of steps, on the right-hand side, leads to the parklands, planted with trees over a hundred years old, followed by grasslands. This property is fully enclosed. The meadow on the northern limit can also be reached via a little lane. The gravel driveway slopes gently down to a small courtyard, around which stand a little freestone house awaiting restoration, a woodshed, a well, the entrance to the troglodyte caves and a flight of steps going up to the garden.

The large, luxurious home

This square house is flanked in the centre of its main facade by a square turret. Constructed over a semi-underground basement, this residence is accessed via a double stairway. Completed in 1882, it has decorative features typical of a middle-class, period residence such as scrolls, dressed stone quoins and framing around the openings, string courses marking the floors, a dentil cornice and a finial. The Mansard-style roof, redone in 2005, has a zinc deck, and a slate break featuring roof dormers.

Ground floor
The entrance door opens into a living room, a vast, east-west facing, through room. Its features include herringbone pattern parquet flooring, a moulded ceiling, two 19th century fireplaces with marble mantels, one light-coloured, and the other dark. A vestibule then provides access, on one side, to a study and, on the other, to a large kitchen. A door under the stairs leads to the cellar. A conservatory at the end of the corridor opens on to the terrace and the garden.
First floor
The landing provides access to four bedrooms, one of which has its own shower room, a bathroom and a toilet.
Second floor
This level, given over to the artistic activity of the current owner, spans 106 m², divided into four rooms (including one with a sink), a bathroom and a toilet.

Our opinion

This town residence is set in rural surroundings where old vine-growers’ cottages are still to be found. Its dominant position ensures a superb view over the plain. The parklands, into which open the troglodyte caves, exude a certain stateliness just like the middle-class residence itself. A family will greatly appreciate the layout and the size of the interior areas which would also be suited to a bed & breakfast activity in a region with numerous cultural sites and activities.
