Description

This old Seigneurial town stands on the edge of a vast national forest. With its old bailiff’s court now used as the town hall as well as its old houses and narrow paved streets, it still remains authentic. This 230 m² house, with its 368 m² garden, out of sight of onlookers, stands in the middle of the village. It has two entrances, one of which makes it possible to park a car; a rare asset in the village.

The house

This house was constructed in 1825 and has since been fully renovated. Its 3 levels are topped with a roof covered with flat tiles. The garden facade features wide balconies, providing superb views over the countryside. The more classical street facade faces the rising sun. A second section adjoining the west facade was constructed more recently. The full-frame windows and the dark woodwork provide a combination of elegance and modernity.
Gates in the stone wall, enclosing the property, make it possible to access the garden where an area has been paved for parking a car.

Garden level
The entrance hall opens widely on to the outside and into the lounge, making this room double aspect and giving it a view of the garden. It also leads, left, to a toilet and, right, to a stairway going upstairs. One of the two black marble fireplaces in the through living room, set facing one another, is flanked by old moulded cupboards. The walls are painted a warm white and the floor is paved with old stone. The kitchen and an eating area open into the living room. They also open on to a terrace with wooden decking.
First floor
The stairway, housed in the entrance hall, provides access to comfortably-sized bedrooms, both with parquet flooring, to a shower room and to a bathroom. The left-hand bedroom, with a balcony, has its own bathroom. The bathroom floors are covered with tiles or old terracotta tiles.
A second stairway goes up from the eating area to an independent space under the rafters which comprises a mezzanine, a bedroom and a bathroom. The mezzanine opens on to a large balcony.

Second floor
An intermediate landing provides access to a room in use as a linen room. A few more steps go up to the master suite, laid out over the full surface area of this top floor. Under the sloping roof, it features old terracotta floor tiles. The vast, bright bedroom is linked to a dressing room area, to a bathroom with a shower and to a separate toilet with a door to a small 7 m² attic.

A vaulted cellar

A vaulted cellar, under the house, spans a floor surface area of approx. 17 m². It can be reached from the outside via wide stone steps.

The garage

This garage, set facing the gates, spans a floor surface area of 15 m². It can take bicycles and motorbikes.

The garden shed

A small workshop in the lower section of the garden can be used for a multitude of activities.

The garden

This garden, abundantly planted with flowers and trees, is laid out over two levels. A first section leads to the main entrance and the terrace, where it is pleasant to take meals during clement weather. The second section, laid out around a birdbath, is but an invitation to rest and relax.

Our opinion

The renovation works on this old house have been carried out in keeping with its original character. Wooden lintels and balconies are harmoniously aligned in the stone. A Virgin with Child statuette is set in the blind arch of an alcove. The soberness of the street facade conceals the somewhat old-fashioned charm and sensuality of a garden where roses and wisteria climb the walls and where paving stones bear the patina of time. A family will appreciate the airy space of this verdant haven. The nearby forest can be reached simply by leaving the peaceful village.
