Rue-Meslay was created in 1696 and was named Rue-des-Remparts, those of Philippe-Auguste and Charles V which were demolished by orders from Richelieu. Artists who had their studio in Rue-Meslay include Robert-Le-Lorrain, Christophe-Gabriel-Allegrain and his colleague Jean-Baptiste-Pigalle. George-Sand was born at no. 46 Rue-Meslay. The Passage-de-Pont-aux-Biches, by no. 37, goes through to Rue-Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth. Rue-Meslay begins at Place-de-la-République, just 500 m from the building, and stretches as far as Rue-Saint-Martin. It is little used and therefore very quiet.
150 m from Strasbourg-Saint Denis (lines 4, 8 and 9) underground station, and 500 m from République (lines 3, 5, 8, 9 and 11), Temple (line 3) and Arts-et-Métiers (lines 3 and 11) underground stations.
The front door to the flat, reached via the lift or via the oak wood stairway, opens into a small entrance lobby extended by a corridor, lined with cupboards, concealed behind sliding doors. A through living room is at the end of the corridor. The open-plan kitchen is fitted with a Gaggenau oven and extractor hood, a 5-ring gas hob, a 75 cm wide refrigerator and a dishwasher. Superbly illuminated via two large windows, the kitchen is separated from the eating area by a counter. Four large windows and a glazed door opening on to the 7.35 m² balcony let copious amounts of light into the living room. The corridor also provides access, right, to a vast 24 m² bedroom with two windows overlooking the balcony which faces a blind wall. On the right-hand side of the bedroom, a bathroom comprises a bath, a shower, two wash-hand basins, a toilet and a laundry room area. Its window also overlooks the balcony. A dressing room is at the end on the right-hand side.
The shower room, facing the bedroom, comprises a toilet and a door which communicates with the 12 m² bedroom. This room can also be reached via the flat’s entrance lobby.
Domestic hot water is produced by two hot water tanks. One, containing 100 litres, is in a cupboard in the entrance lobby. It was changed two years ago. The second, containing 150 litres, is in the bathroom.
This flat would ideally suit a couple, a small or even a large family, if the biggest bedroom was converted into two bedrooms.
The intsia wood parquet flooring gives it coherence. A few signs of wear and tear do not prevent the full renovation works, carried out in 2001, from continuing to be effective. This flat has double glazing throughout, all the walls are lined and there is thermal insulation on the outside walls. It is fitted with fibre-optic cable.
