Location
The building stands in Paris’ 9th arrondissement, on land that was once assigned to Montmartre Abbey. It is bordered by two roads, named after famous abbesses. This district has a superb public transport system with numerous buses as well as underground and RER train stations, several of which make it easy to leave the French capital. Rocroy secondary school as well as the Jacques-Decour, Lamartine and Condorcet lycées or sixth form colleges are nearby as are the shops in Rue-des-Martyrs and the market in the elegant Avenue-Trudaine.
Description
The family flat
This flat, on the 6th and 7th floors of a 1904, wrought dressed stone building, comprises eight rooms, including five bedrooms.
The lounge and the dining room, spanning a floor surface area of 30 m², reflect the style of the 1900’s with their light-coloured, herringbone pattern parquet flooring and their finely sculpted cornices. With two French windows, they both open on to a wide balcony terrace looking down on all of Paris. A wrought iron spiral stairway leads to a small study, resembling a solitary retreat, with a view over the French capital and beyond. The entrance hall also provides access to a kitchen as well as a small cloakroom cupboard. A corridor leads to the bedrooms, all of which look out over a quiet courtyard. The first, still with its moulding, has its own bathroom and separate toilet. On this same corridor are two more adjoining bedrooms which share a shower room and toilet. The stairway, at the end of the corridor, gives the impression of actually being in a house and goes up to a large bedroom, preceding a last bedroom and a shower room with a toilet.
Our opinion
This flat is like an observatory, looking out from its balcony terrace over Paris and the Opera House, Grand-Palais, Eiffel Tower, Saint-Sulpice and La-Défense, a list that is far from comprehensive. It is large, comfortable and its two levels can provide privacy for all members of the family. This district is one of the most lively and sought-after in Paris. The enigmatic smile of the mascaron crowning the entrance door could well be one of satisfaction.
