Location

The Notre-Dame district of Versailles is the oldest in the town today. The first streets were created at the beginning of the 1660s, when Louis XIV decided to build a palace and set up court there. The town which developed in order to house part of the court was designed in accordance with symmetrical plans and strict instructions to create a harmonious layout around the palace. This district, with its extremely pleasant surroundings, has since become one of the most sought-after in Versailles.

Description

This 2-storey flat is in a residential street, just a ten minute walk from the entrance to the Chateau and the Royal Park, five minutes from Rue-de-la-Paroisse and its many shops. Versailles-Rive-Droite train station, with links to La-Défense and Saint-Lazare (line L), is also just a 10-minute walk away. The prestigious Lycée-Hoche is 15 minutes away on foot.
This flat, in a Directoire-style building, constructed at the end of the 18th century, actually spans three levels with its entrance on the ground floor and its main living areas spread out over the first and second floors.

Ground floor
The front door to this flat is in a large communal entrance hall. It opens into a room which is used as a cloakroom and a study as well as providing access to the garden. An elegant, wooden stairway leads up to the first floor.
First floor
A large, luminous landing provides access, left, to the “daytime” section and, right, to the “night-time” section. Double doors open into the vast lounge. Strip pattern parquet flooring, a warmly-coloured Breccia marble fireplace, moulding enhanced with gilt-edging and four windows, two of which look out over the garden, make this a bright, elegant reception room. Double doors provide access to a dining room, forming an extension of the previous room. A pantry leads to the back stairway and a kitchen, looking out over the garden. In the “night-time” section are two immaculately decorated bedrooms, together with a bathroom so vast, so bright and so elegantly fitted out that residents love to linger.
Second floor
This floor is reached via a stairway near to the first floor bedrooms and via the back stairway. It is currently divided into two sections, separated by a partition wall that could easily be removed to make one large area. It comprises four bedrooms as well as two shower rooms and a bathroom. Although this floor is partially under the rafters, it still has high ceilings. Numerous windows and skylights make it luminous all day long.
The garden
A verdant area in the centre of town is always much appreciated. The size of this one is both sufficient and reassuring. A hedge of shrubs borders one side whilst an evergreen magnolia tree soberly enhances the lawn. A 2-storey shed has been built in the architectural style of the main building in the garden.

Our opinion

A flat or a house? This property, steeped in history and style with its original configuration and its extensive layout possibilities, is stylishly set in the most beautiful district of a royal town. For a divided family or a need for independent spaces, these two spacious, convivial and elegant floors look out over a garden which doubles their surface area in greenery. The presence of an annex building and a large garage enhances the comfort of everyday living. The lawn soberly features a magnolia tree whilst a wisteria climbs graciously up the facade. Ideal for nature lovers and firm city dwellers alike, no lack of taste is entitled to exist within this prestigious property.
