A 70 m² flat of high standing
with a balcony in the Montorgueil district

Location

Rue-Pierre-Lescot, created in 1852, is named after the architect of kings, initiator of the so-called “French” classical style. He was chosen by François 1st to renovate the south-west corner of Le-Louvre currently named “la cour carrée” (the square courtyard). He worked for thirty two years under the aegis of five monarchs.
One of his major works was the “Fontaine des Innocents” (the fountain of the innocent). Today, Rue-Pierre-Lescot is one of the main roads in the Les-Halles district. An area renowned for its emblematic Montorgueil market and the many food shops such as the “Stohrer” cake shop or the mythical “L'Escargot” restaurant. This sector has an excellent public transport network. Les-Halles is the nearest underground station.

Description

This through, 70 m² flat is on the second floor of an 18th century dressed stone building. Reached via a lift, it opens into a superb entrance hall or dining area, extended by a pleasant balcony and an open-plan kitchen. This area is followed by a 27 m² lounge. With its red marble fireplace, it is illuminated by two tall French windows overlooking the street. On the right-hand side is a 12 m² bedroom, looking out over a courtyard, with numerous cupboards. Next to it a large shower room has an Italian shower and a toilet. This flat has parquet flooring throughout and 3 m high ceilings.

The building

The dressed stone building, constructed in 1740, is outstanding. Sculpted bas-reliefs featuring horns of plenty, ships and their sea anchors as well as miscellaneous shells prove that the building, which had a gable wall facing the street, belonged to a wealthy merchant of seafood. A balcony featuring shell-shaped wrought ironwork equally highlights this past activity. The solid oak wood door opens into a driveway leading to a delightful inner, planted courtyard.

Our opinion

This area, set in the true centre of Paris, was once the French capital’s stomach at the time when Les-Halles (covered market) was still in use. This is a prime example of the district’s many authentic, old buildings. This flat can be lived in straightaway, steeping its new owners in the decor and liveliness of the capital city. All shops, amenities and leisure activities are but a stone’s throw away. Saint-Eustache church, one of Paris’ most famous churches, even hosts classical music concerts.
