Only the layout of the buildings reveals what this farm used to be. Stood atop a hill with views that carry the eye far beyond the hills of the "country of the great air", it has now been transformed into veritable estate. Behind the extreme simplicity and sparkling whites lies a real focus on softness and comfort. With large spaces, clean lines and noble materials, everything seems to have been designed to celebrate the surrounding light and warmth in peace and quiet. One could almost forget that the sea and the splendid beaches of this part of Portugal are nearby.
The authenticity of the region, the purity and beauty of the nature, the kindness of the Portuguese people and the simplicity of everyday life. To top it off, all of these are close to beaches, restaurants, shops and small, authentic towns. Sao Bras de Alportel (a former capital of cork) is a charming little town in the Algarve that has maintained its authenticity. One can stroll around and soak up the history, take a break on one of the terraces in the sun or simply enjoy watching the world go by.
Farmhouse of the Palms is located in the Algarve in southern Portugal. It is an old "monte" which has now been converted into a guest house. "Monte" is an old Portuguese word for farm. Our "monte" was restored with a lot of love and great care was taken to preserve the history of the house and the surrounding landscape. It showcases countless authentic elements such as original cobblestones, terracotta tiles typical of Santa Catarina from Fote do Bispo, fireplaces, eucalyptus beams in the roofs and a bread oven.
Farmhouse of the Palms - previously known as "Monte das Palmeiras" - is a master farm that is over two hundred years old. The farmer also owned land in the surrounding area and cultivated vineyards, olive groves and carob. He produced his own honey, olive oil and wine. Each part of the house has its own unique history - the stables for animals, the house for storing olive oil, an "adega" where wine was made and stored, the old "eira" - rotating grindstone - and the huge bread oven inside that is more than two metres in diameter.
A personalised breakfast is served at the table and is different each day. It is a magical place where you can start the day by watching the sun rise from the shelter of our century-old carob tree outside. We only have five rooms but we provide our guests with large areas that create a spacious and tranquil atmosphere - both in the guestrooms with private terraces and in the indoor and outdoor communal areas. In addition to the beautiful garden, there is a large black stone pool, various terraces, hammocks, chairs and deckchairs where you can relax in peace. We have a table d'hôtes twice a week. A Portuguese cook prepares traditional and authentic Portuguese dishes. Dinner is served outside with the sunset and moonlight as a backdrop. Exclusive fado concerts are organised twice a month - these are magical moments in the moonlight under the carob tree.
Explore Faro, Olhao, Loulé or Tavira. Spend a relaxing day on one of the Ria Formosa islands and rent a boat to explore the nature reserve. A visit to the cork factory is a must-do in Sao Bras de Alportel which was once the cork capital of the world. Enjoy internationally renowned Monterosa olive oil near Moncarapacho and delight in the unique flavours.
