Why did you settle in this region, in this place and not elsewhere ?

The Armenon Farm is a family property. We moved here as farmers in December 2011 but quickly began renovations to open guest rooms and, more recently, reception areas. Since then, life on the farm has never been the same. Our house has opened up to the world and become a place for welcoming guests, meetings, exchanges and sharing.

What can you offer people staying with you ?

La Ferme d'Armenon is located a few kilometers from Paris, in the heart of the Chevreuse Valley. It is a lively region with plenty of nature in the form of forests and fields. It benefits from being close to the capital but with enough distance to avoid the hustle and bustle. We ensure a warm and friendly atmosphere in which guests can share moments together. The unique rooms maintain the authenticity of the place, though we have added a few touches of modernity. We share our passion for organic, local and homemade products with our guests.

What specific architectural features does your building have ?

It is an authentic farmhouse composed of several farm buildings and a beautiful 18th century mansion made from millstone. It is surrounded by barns, trees, lawns and pools overlooking a large square courtyard which is typical of farms in the area. The property and its hundred-hectare park overlook the Chevreuse Valley.

Places you would personally recommend

Refined palettes will enjoy the "Clos de Chevreuse" restaurant in "Parisien province". The chef (who has had an impressive career and spent seven years at 'The Bristol') serves balanced and neat dishes with a focus on local products. "La Bonne Franquette" in Janvry combines traditional cuisine with mysterious spices and entrancing flavours. "Le Jardin Sucré" in Cernay-la-Ville has a pair of self-taught pastry chefs who are the macaron champions of France. We also recommend Ferme de Coubertin, a family farm that has won several awards for its cheeses, you can see the cows and goats being milked every day.

What is its history ?

The Armenon Farm is an 18th century property. It has belonged to some noteworthy figures over the years, in particular the Target family whose son Guy Jean-Baptiste, a member of the French Academy, defended Cardinal de Rohan during the affair of the Queen's necklace. As a member of the 'États généraux', he chaired the Constituent Assembly and participated in the drafting of the 1791 Constitution that became known as "Target's daughter". He made it through "the Terror" unnoticed and finished his career at the Court of Cassation. He died in Molières in 1806. The property later became a cereal farm. We converted it into an organic farm in the spring of 2014.

Our opinion

At the end of a path, Armenon appears like a manor house surveying its field crops. The property's agricultural origins are but a distant memory, it now opens its doors to those seeking some fresh air - both the Chevreuse Valley and the natural park are within walking distance. This attractive getaway is perfect for nature and history lovers alike as the region is also dotted with prestigious castles. The ensemble is less than an hour from the capital.
