In a village in the French department of Gard, 8 km from Uzès, 20 km from Nîmes (TGV train station), 17 km from the motorway and 40 km from Avignon (TGV train station).

Description

This quadrilateral building, constructed on a slight knoll and surrounding a cool, shady garden courtyard, was once the village’s centre of defence. Divided up following the French Revolution, this residence has been gradually restored as the various plots were repurchased. It currently comprises three separate dwellings, spanning approx. 520 m². The last section to be acquired is soon to undergo restoration works. Vaulted galleries, crossed ribs and mullioned windows bring the old feudal residence to mind, but the contemporary touch added by the restoration works and the installation of a swimming pool area put the residence firmly in the 21st century.

The owner’s large flat

Upstairs are two bedrooms, one of which has a mezzanine, a bathroom and a suntrap terrace.

The recently acquired section awaiting restoration

This section spans a floor surface area of 200 m² which could be converted into living space. It is laid out over three levels with a 50 m² attic and a 20 m² courtyard.

Our opinion

This residence, with its terraces and points of view, is both a home and a set of rental flats. Built in an area where old stone is deeply respected and enhanced, it is a short distance from Uzès, an elegant, wealthy town, and is near to all the major tourist sites in the Provence and Languedoc regions. Its large vaulted rooms on the ground floor, currently employed as storage areas and garages, are but waiting to be converted and put to good use.
