In the Alsace region, 15 minutes from the European capital and its international airport, on the edge of a village with shops and amenities. In a natural, unspoilt setting, at the end of a no-through road, this property is crossed by the river La-Bruche.
The large, luxurious home and the mill
This large, luxurious home is an elegant, 19th century construction, spanning two levels, with a facade featuring openings with Vosges pink sandstone framing. The actual mill reflects the 19th century industrial architecture with its brick framing on much older, dressed stone foundations.
The farm outbuildings
The courtyard is closed on the south side by a half-timbered barn which houses a large empty space under a roofing framework. A scroll bearing the initials of the builders dates the building from 1786. On the west side, a long outbuilding, with a brick paved floor, features masonry on the ground floor and half-timbering upstairs. It houses several horse loose boxes. On the east side stands a large wooden farm shed which opens on to the courtyard on one side and borders the waters’ edge on the other.
The old stable
An elegant building stands at the property entrance. Featuring a hip roof, it houses a stable and its “charreterie” where carriages were once kept, as well as a bakery and two storerooms, one of which is vaulted and completely underground. An astonishing aviary backs on to the building.
The landscaped setting
The buildings are surrounded by 3 hectares comprising various natural, landscaped areas with a multitude of ambiances. Parklands, bordered by the river, stretch out behind the house. In the centre, the island with its lakes and its grasslands, surrounded by riverine vegetation, forms a listed wooded area. The old vegetable garden, delimited by a stone wall, is to be found at the entrance to the property. A tree-lined meadow extends behind the barn.
Those who know Alsace are aware just how rare this type of isolated property is in the region. What more can be said, therefore, about this 19th century property, so near to Strasbourg and so far from everything in its watery, landscaped setting? Combining the comfort of the large, luxurious home with the rusticity of the farmstead, this property is, for many, the ideal compromise, a view that justifies the required renovation works. Its potential is equal to the vast floor surface areas awaiting conversion. Fortunate new owners will be able to appreciate the delightful feeling of being alone in the world in lush, natural surroundings just 15 minutes from the European capital.
