A house with its orangery
in the Bigouden area of Brittany

Quimper, FINISTERE brittany 29000 FR

In the south of the French department of Finistère, in the midst of the Bigouden area, some ten minutes from Quimper (TGV train station), Pont-l'Abbé and Audierne Bay.
Five minutes from an airport with 75-minute links with Paris-Orly as well as flights to London and to Ajaccio.
The village, with its 1,800 inhabitants, is but ten minutes’ walk away and has all amenities (shops and schools).

This property is set in the fold of a wooded valley, next to a manor house with a listed monumental entrance, dating from the 18th century. It is surrounded by one hundred year old trees such as this horse chestnut tree, also listed as one of the oldest in France, which appears to be watching over the estate.
Small, wooden entrance gates open into a courtyard. The residence comprises two buildings set at right angles to one another, connected by a lobby.
Gardens, spanning approx. 1,450 m², surround both buildings.

The orangery

This recently constructed, south-west facing building overlooks its entrance courtyard.
The facade, featuring six arched French windows, is topped with a zinc roof, complete with its patina. The building is enhanced by a very large terrace covered with marble quarry stone.
(Approx. 100 m² of living space).

Ground floor
The doors open directly into a large, extremely luminous room spanning approx. 60 m² under a 3.2 m high ceiling. The floor is covered with marble quarry stone continuing on from that of the terrace.
It also comprises a study-bedroom, a kitchen at the back and a toilet with a wash-hand basin. A door opens into the oldest section.
A Viessmann heat pump provides underfloor heating.

The house

This building, once a barn on the neighbouring manor house’s farm, dates from the 19th century.
The walls are made of exposed stone, topped with a slate roof. It spans approx. 130 m² of living space over two levels.

Ground floor
This house, unusually for a building of this size, has no less than five entrance doors.
Coming from the orangery, a small entrance hall provides access, on the left-hand side, to a kitchen as well as a toilet and, on the right-hand side, to a dining room, where double oak wood doors open into a lounge. This magnificent room, looking widely out over the outside with a view of the manor house, spans approx. 35 m² and has a 3.4 m high ceiling. The fireplace is fitted with a closed-hearth, wood-burning stove.
The fitted kitchen includes a large Falcon kitchen range, black granite work surfaces and a fireplace. A stairway provides access upstairs. A door opens out into a back courtyard where an eating area has been set out. An old stone sink acts as a reminder of the age of the building.

First floor
The upstairs rooms have sloping ceilings and parquet flooring.
The landing has been transformed into a reading room-library. On the left-hand side of this room is a bathroom with a toilet whilst a corridor, on the right-hand side, leads to a small bedroom and a suite with a shower room and a dressing room. A bull’s eye window set in the gable wall gives a view of the manor house.

Our opinion

This property, just over an hour from Paris-Orly, stands out courtesy of its surroundings and its exceptional setting, the views from which are enhanced by its neighbour, the old, elegant manor house.
Near to the prefecture of Finistère and to Raz Point, one of the most beautiful protected natural sites and one of the most visited, between the bocage countryside and the ocean, this traditional land, with its strong identity and its wealth of religious heritage, is ideal for a multitude of private and/or commercial projects since the manor house has many regular, predominantly English customers.
