This house is some twenty minutes from the town of Angers, in a delightful village on the banks of the Loire which has all shops and amenities as well as a regional train station with 10-minute links to the town. Easy access to the A11 motorway.


This house comprises two buildings. The first, running alongside the little village street, includes the entrance door. It is extended by a wall, in which there is a covered porch way and a pedestrian gate, both providing access to a courtyard. The latter is bordered on one side by the second building, adjoining the first at right angles, and, on another side by the outbuildings facing it. The last side of the courtyard opens on to the garden.

The house

This house comprises a ground, a first and a second floor under a slate roof. The framing surrounding the openings, the cornices and the roof dormers are made of freestone. The turret, topped with a candle-snuffer roof, softens the corner where the two buildings meet. It features a second entrance door. The facade is adorned with medallions that represent the four seasons as well as two oval niches. A terrace, looking down on the courtyard, running alongside the second building, has two small access porch ways.

Ground floor
The entrance hall in the tower provides access, on one side, to a kitchen and, on the other side, to a dining room. It also leads to the boiler room. A hall area provides access from the dining room to a straight, wooden stairway, on one side, and, on the other, to a storeroom and two adjoining lounges. The reception rooms have freestone fireplaces and marble floors. A small connecting area leads from the kitchen to a bedroom, with a bathroom and toilet, as well as to a wooden, winding, single-flight stairway which goes upstairs. The hall area can also be reached from the street.
First floor
Both landings provide access to five bedrooms, three of which have fireplaces, as well as to two bathrooms, two toilets, a laundry room and a dressing room. The bedroom floors are covered with strip pattern parquet flooring.
Second floor
Both landings lead to two rooms, one of which spans 60 m², as well as to two attics.

The outbuildings

The outbuildings comprise an old barn, spanning approx. 200 m², a storeroom, a stable and a small caretaker’s cottage with two rooms and a bathroom.

The garden

The wooded courtyard is extended by a garden, set out in two sections. The first, laid to lawn, is planted with trees, including a magnolia tree, decoratively trimmed bushes, roses and numerous other shrubs. It is enhanced with an ornamental pool and a well. The second section comprises a central tree-covered walk providing an interesting view.

Our opinion

The charm of this house can be experienced as of the porch way. The sizes of the buildings are appealing, the outbuildings inspire ideas and the garden brings harmony to the entire property. All the buildings are in a good state of repair. Projects for a new way of life here, with the Loire within easy walking distance, the famous vineyards all around and the mild climate, far from being a myth, can take a multitude of forms. Especially as the means of access are comfortable and a large, beautiful town is nearby.
