with a view over the sea to Corsica

Location

On the French Riviera, 10 minutes from Cannes, 20 minutes from Nice, 15 km from Cagnes-sur-Mer and its fine sandy beaches. A village perched in the heights, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, which inspired Modigliani, Jacques Prévert as well as Georges Moustaki. This traditional Mas house can be reached via a narrow road that winds its way up a hill for almost a kilometre. The setting is discrete, far from any neighbours, in the middle of the countryside. A driveway, running along hillside terracing, leads to the terrace in front of the house.

Description

This house, like an eagle’s nest insolently hanging on to its mountain, has a unique panorama taking in 70 km of the surrounding coastline. It stretches as far as the shores of Corsica which can be glimpsed in the distance. Originally a shepherd’s hut, the pastoral dwelling has made way for a large, traditional Mas house built of regional white stone, with the usual triple overhanging cornice. This greatly contrasts with a contemporary, open-plan interior comprising large spacious rooms opening via wide picture windows on to the countryside and the sea. The land has been set out in wide terraced plateaus where gardens with Mediterranean plants are dotted with modern sculptures dedicated to nature. The property’s 8,000 m² of land are classified as agricultural and as “Natura 2000” areas

The interior is laid out around a large living room integrating a modern kitchen. The dark-coloured floor tiles provide the required contrast against the white walls.
The facade features a large vertical picture window that illuminates the rear of the house.
Facing the sea, the terrace shaded by the leaves of a mulberry tree has a summer kitchen with a bread oven and a plancha grill.
Elegant and original contemporary sculptures inspired by nature are dotted around the garden. The ornamental pool, filled with exotic fish, on one level of the terracing, makes a delightful place for meditating.

Our opinion

The purest expression of open space and nature. Visitors often have their breath taken away after having climbed the narrow road and seeing this property in its unique setting. A long way from civilisation, the view is exceptional with the blue sea below and Corsica clearly visible, despite the fact that it can rarely be seen from down on the coast. This traditional Mas house is quite discrete in its green, ochre and blue surroundings. Its contemporary interior, with its refined lines, leaves all attention focused on this outdoor scene, proof of a deep, refined and noble nature.
The small outbuilding is extremely useful for accommodating passing friends or even a caretaker.
