Location

Some 190 km to the west of Paris, in Lower Normandy, near Alençon, prefecture of the French department of Orne reached via the A28 motorway (slip road 11 km away) and a TGV train station with 90-minute links to Paris. Set in the middle of the countryside, in a region where the Normandy Maine and Perche Regional Nature Parks meet. Near to Perseigne Forest, surrounded by numerous tourist villages such as Saint-Ceneri-le-Gerei, one of the most beautiful in France. Nearby Alençon provides all amenities.

Description

Set on an estate a little over a hectare composed of parklands with tall trees and a small brook running through. In game-filled, wooded surroundings, ideal for horse-riding. A communal lane, approx. 1 km long, leads to the estate entrance gates. This hamlet includes a manor house with moats, an old farm as well as this outbuilding, now transformed into a detached residence. A vast kitchen with old hexagonal terracotta floor tiles, a wood-burning stove near to the eating area. A toilet.
First floor
Three renovated bedrooms with sloping, panelled ceilings. One bedroom has its own bathroom. A separate bathroom and a toilet. Superb old exposed beams.

The outbuilding

A rectangular outbuilding with a hip roof, identical to that of the residence. A small attic which could be converted.

Our opinion

Over the last three years, this residence, currently home to artists, has undergone major restoration works, including the conversion of a small, extremely cosy lounge with a view stretching into the distance over the countryside. It is a place, exuding inspiration, where time stands still. Although set in unspoilt natural surroundings, its location in the middle of a hamlet means that it is not isolated. Every family member feels at home here. This property is of a size such that it guarantees a perfectly comfortable stay whatever the season, without imposing overly heavy constraints. It can be lived in all year round. It has all amenities to hand courtesy of the proximity of Alençon. Not too close, nor too far from Paris, a daily return trip to the French capital is more than possible.
