Location

15 minutes from Toulon TGV train station and Toulon-Hyères airport, 5 minutes from the motorway, shops and the centre of a bustling village, the old sector of which has been completely renovated. This unoverlooked house, built on a hillside, has a view over the town with the sea in the distance.

Description

This house was constructed in 2005 by an architect who favoured spacious rooms with 3 m high ceilings. The garden, laid to lawn, surrounds this south-facing house. The north section is taken up by a carport for four vehicles and a patio with a Moroccan-style ornamental pool and fountain. Said patio is covered with small terracotta tiles, laid in curved patterns. A small tiered section on a lower level is used as a parking area for numerous cars. Miscellaneous balconies and terraces look out over some particularly well-chosen views. The ochre-coloured, south facade features three windows on each of the ground and first floors. A large upstairs covered balcony, bordered with wrought iron railings, is protected by straight openings, whilst the openings on the ground floor are arched. The roof is edged with a double overhanging cornice and all the windows, with the exception of those on the east facade, are arched.

The house


Ground floor
One of the particularities of this house is its nine French windows on the ground floor, eight of which are arched, making the house very easy to move around. The main entrance, on the north side, is reached via a patio with a fountain and exotic vegetation, including palm trees, cacti and yucca plants. The door opens directly into a lounge-dining room, with a 3 m high ceiling. The floor is covered with ivory-coloured marble tiles, featuring black inlaid decoration. Amongst its seven openings, three face south and open on to a covered terrace. A French window on the east side opens on to another covered terrace, adjoining a modern kitchen. A corridor, housing a separate toilet, leads to a bedroom, with a shower room, and to a door opening outside on the north side. A stairway goes down to the basement, composed of two cellars. The section of the house which is not over the cellars, is constructed over a crawlspace.
Floor
A stairway, with steps covered in small terracotta tiles, like those of the patio, goes upstairs to three bedrooms. One, facing north-west, has a shower room, toilet and a small balcony looking down on to the patio. A second, south-facing bedroom, with a shower room and toilet, opens on to a balcony running alongside the room. And lastly, the master bedroom, with a bathroom, a shower, a toilet and a wardrobe, has two windows that open on to the balcony with its dominant view. Light from the rising sun floods in through a bull’s eye window in the external wall. The bedroom and the wardrobe doors are made of superb, light-coloured, solid oak wood. The master bedroom features exotic wood parquet flooring, whilst the other two bedrooms have square terracotta floor tiles.

The garden

The garden is laid out all around the house. The latter is reached via a steep concrete drive which makes it possible to leave cars outside, near the house on a gravel parking area, bordered by a dry-stone wall or under a carport near the patio. The carport features five arched openings, three of which open on to the patio, in a similar fashion to those of the French windows of the house. Its roofing framework is exposed and the roof is covered with old tiles.
The vegetation is composed of tall pine, cypress and olive trees as well as oleander and two large bougainvillaea bushes, against the south-facing facade. The largest section of the land is planted with kikuyu grass, forming a sun-resistant lawn.

Our opinion

This contemporary home features rooms inspired by old Italian residences with harmonious, spacious living areas, opening widely on to the outside. Dominating the town but close to everything, in a sound and pristine condition, it will appeal to potential buyers seeking large, well-balanced rooms and appreciating noble materials with impeccable fixtures and fittings.
