A tastefully restored village house in Provence,
between Avignon, Saint-Rémy and Arles

Avignon, BOUCHES-DU-RHONE provence-cote-dazur 84000 FR
Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

Some fifteen kilometres from Avignon. Tarascon, Beaucaire, Saint-Rémy, Les-Baux-de-Provence, Arles, Nîmes, Le-Pont-du-Gard, Uzès as well as Les-Saintes-Maries-de-la-mer are all within a 40-kilometre radius. Marseille is 70 km away, Aix-en-Provence is 55 km away. Avignon TGV train station, with 30-minute links to Marseille or Lyon and 160-minute links to Paris, is 15 minutes away.

This house is in the middle of a peaceful, unspoilt village with all shops, in the land of Alphonse-Daudet. The “La Montagnette” mountain area forms its natural surroundings. The beauty of the landscapes is inspired by a pleasant way of life, idling in a climate where the sky is nearly always blue.
Bare stone, rendering, exposed rafters, old local floor tiles and old cement tiles, all old materials from here or from elsewhere, recycled objects bearing witness to the fact that the architect renovating this house was seeking authenticity. The result is a spicy, extremely colourful atmosphere.
Three levels, five individually decorated bedrooms, a large swim spa, a patio and terraces, the outside contributing to its comfort.

The ground floor

The living room, with its stone fireplace, (45 m²) and the kitchen (15 m²) flank the patio (18 m²). A laundry room and bathroom facilities take up annex floor surface areas.

The bedrooms

The bedrooms are on two levels with independent access. The second floor features a 25 m² terrace. The first bedroom, on the first floor with a view over a small peaceful square, is vast and steeped in light courtesy of two large windows. The floor is laid with old local tiles and the ceiling is coffered. It has easy access to the terrace. The shower room comprises an Italian style shower, an old wash-hand basin, a toilet and a heated towel rail radiator.
The second bedroom is also on the first floor and illuminated via two large windows. The floor is laid with old local tiles and the ceiling is coffered between cedar wood beams. The integrated bathroom comprises an old bath tub and a stone wash-hand basin. The toilet is separate.
The view from the third bedroom on the second floor takes in the medieval castle. This guest bedroom, with its three windows, is extremely bright. It has solid cedar wood parquet flooring. The shower room is fitted with an Italian style shower, an old wash-hand basin, a toilet and a heated towel rail radiator.
The fourth bedroom, also on the second floor, is illuminated by its three windows. It has solid cedar wood parquet flooring. Its shower room comprises an Italian style shower, a wash-hand basin and a toilet.
And lastly, a suite on the first floor looks out over the main street and the inner courtyard of the house. Two windows looking out over the street and a large picture window overlooking the courtyard via a private balcony provide it with a double aspect. It comprises a large bedroom and a small lounge. The bedroom has solid cedar wood parquet flooring whilst that in the lounge is laid with old local tiles. It also has a bathroom with an old bath tub and a shower room with an Italian style shower and a wooden wash-hand basin.
A sixth bedroom is currently being used as a linen room.

The separate flat

A self-contained 2-storey flat, above the spa, spans approx. 42 m². It has a balcony and an 18 m² terrace.

The spa

A 45 m² room has been fitted out with a Jacuzzi and a large swim spa, topped with a sliding atrium, providing a view of the Provencal sky. It is flanked with old windows with mirror panes.

Our opinion

Provencal scrubland is on the outskirts of the village dominated by an impressive medieval castle, built on rock. This house has been restored such that it blends with the materials, colours and ambiances of a region that is not only highly distinctive but also easy to reach. The use of ceramic tiles and wood has proved particularly successful. The autonomy of the rooms in relation to one another will be especially appreciated by families with older children as well as by guests wishing to recharge their batteries in a Provence that fulfils their dreams.
