14 km from Quimper and its TGV train station which will have 3⅓-hour links to Paris-Montparnasse as of summer 2017, and some 20 minutes from its airport with 75-minute flights to Orly. This property, set in an area much appreciated by tourists, between Bénodet and Sainte-Marine, is near to several beaches, marinas and golf courses as well as the famous Glénan Islands.


Once passed the caretaker’s cottage, the chateau comes into view at the end of a long driveway which crosses the property. The heavily wooded land runs alongside the Odet estuary and the port of Bénodet. The stable stands at a short distance in front of the old stone walled vegetable garden, out of sight of unlookers.

The chateau

This chateau, built in the second half of the 19th century in a neo-classical style, comprises a rectangular building and several protruding rendered stone pavilions, standing on lower sections made of dressed stone, a material that was also used for the quoins, the roof dormers as well as the framing around the doors and windows. Its steep roofs are covered with slate. It spans approx. 700 m² of living space over four levels.

Base level
The basement comprises a large old kitchen with a fireplace, a laundry room, a wash-room, a boiler room and a wine cellar.
Ground floor
The raised ground floor is reached at the front and the back of the building via wide stone steps. All the walls on this level are covered with polished or painted oak wood panelling of an excellent quality, featuring Ionic order columns and half columns as well as carved and painted panels above the doors. The parquet flooring is laid in a randomly matched pattern. The vast vestibule leads straight on to a small lounge with a marble fireplace and provides access, on one side, to a dining room as well as a kitchen and, on the other, to a large lounge spanning approx. 60 m² where a wide picture window provides a superb view of the river Odet. An impressive stairway, leading upstairs, houses a toilet. Another smaller stairway leads to a mezzanine floor.
First floor
The landing provides access to a corridor that leads to a double bedroom with a bathroom and toilet, a bedroom with a bathroom, two bedrooms with shower rooms and a toilet.
Second floor
This level comprises a bedroom with a bathroom, six bedrooms with water supply points, another bathroom and a toilet.

The parklands

Dotted with copses of trees, several hundreds of years old, of miscellaneous species, immense groups of rhododendrons as well as grasslands, the parklands stretch over approx. 54 ha, 16 ha of which are farmland rented in accordance with a farming lease. They also include a small lake.

The outbuildings

The stables
This V-shaped building has a central awning with posts and a wooden roofing framework. The ground floor includes a stable, a tack room and a garage. The first floor is taken up by a flat spanning approx. 120 m².
Caretaker’s accommodation
This house, standing at the entrance to the property, has a thatched roof. The building awaits full restoration works.

The swimming pool

A swimming pool has been installed in front of the chateau.

Our opinion

This section of the Breton coast is known as the Riviera and opportunities for purchasing properties are consequently very rare, hence the sale of this elegant building is quite exceptional. In addition to its comfortable floor surface area, this chateau also takes advantage of all the seaside, tourist and maritime advantages provided by the small town and its surroundings. The spacious living rooms, enhanced by top quality panelling, have wonderfully picturesque views over Bénodet and Sainte-Marine marinas. Its numerous bedrooms are but waiting for a new family to arrive and breathe new salty life back into them. This property also has everything needed to take on all kinds of tourist accommodation projects.
