just a few minutes from the beaches on the Cotentin peninsula
In a region of undulating bocage countryside, this Directoire style chateau, surrounded by orchards, is but a few minutes away from the beaches and several golf courses. The town of Granville, its train station and its shops are just a few kilometres away.
On one side, a glazed veranda backing on to the building houses a kitchen, whilst an old chapel, on the other side, is now laid out as a sauna, a hammam and a machine room for the covered swimming pool, adjoining the main courtyard.
Flower beds planted with baby sage, planters containing olive trees and the presence of palm trees bear witness to the mild Cotentin climate.
The opposite facade, also extremely classical, opens on to a large terrace. Six skylights indicate the presence of a second habitable floor, with sloping ceilings.
Near to the house, a small pavilion is in use as a laundry room, a boiler room and a 2-roomed flat.
Further away, an outbuilding comprises a 4-bedroomed house, spanning three levels, as well as garages and the old stables. A little building nearby is used as a storeroom.
In addition to a swimming pool, heated by a heat pump and protected by a heated shelter, this estate, spanning a surface area of more than 11 ha, also includes an old tennis court as well as approx. 4 ha of grassy parklands, planted with trees over a hundred years old.
The main house is topped with a central, triangular pediment and flanked by two slightly protruding pavilions. A semi-circular porch, with two steps, leads to the gravel courtyard, whilst the large paved terrace at the back is all on a level.
Spanning approx. 400 m², the main building comprises a ground floor and two upper floors, one of which has sloping ceilings. A glazed veranda adjoining the building houses the kitchen.
On the ground floor, a vast entrance hall, with a horseshoe-shaped stairway and a separate toilet at the back, provides access, on the left-hand side, to a lounge, a dining room and the fully fitted kitchen with its atrium window and, on the right-hand side, to another lounge-study. All the reception rooms have a double aspect and a fireplace.
The first-floor landing, reached via the double stairway, leads right to a large bedroom and its bathroom and, left, to 2 large bedrooms and their bathrooms. A fourth bedroom, behind the stairway, communicates with one of the bathrooms.
The second floor, with its sloping ceilings, is taken up by two bedrooms, a bathroom, a study, a separate toilet and a storeroom.
The pool-house, set up in the old chapel, with its gable roof, houses a sauna, a hammam, a shower, changing rooms as well as the pool machine room.
The main outbuilding
Constructed from stone and cob, this building comprises, on the one hand, garages and old stables and, on the other, a 3-storey house. The ground floor includes two rooms and a kitchen, the first floor, two bedrooms and a bathroom as well as a third bedroom with its own bathroom and, the second floor, a landing, a bedroom and a separate toilet with a wash-hand basin.
Another small building used for storage purposes adjoins the remains of an old henhouse.
The other outbuildings
Symmetrically opposite the old chapel, a stone building houses a laundry room and a boiler room. A 2-roomed pavilion. A garden shed.
The garden, the parklands and the sports facilities
This property spans a total surface area of approx. 11 ha, 7 ha of which are grasslands, partially planted with apple trees, whilst another 4 ha are parklands, planted with trees over a hundred years old. A small steam crosses the property and feeds a little fish-filled lake.
Next to the main courtyard, a covered swimming pool and Jacuzzi are heated via a heat pump.
A “fast-surface” tennis court completes the facilities.
This property is a collection of multiple, particularly delightful and complementary aspects in itself. In addition to the main, sober and elegant house which is spacious, pleasant and easy to live in, outbuildings have already been converted for use as a holiday rental accommodation unit or a separate guest house. These are accompanied by an old tennis court as well as a swimming pool and its Jacuzzi, both heated and undercover so that they can be used all year round.
The immediate surroundings, with a small lake and stream for fishing, grasslands for horses as well as the proximity of beaches, golf courses, water sports and Granville are all much-appreciated assets of the ever-pleasant Cotentin peninsula.
