In the land of ochre and sunshine, the house has chosen to set its foundations down in a vast territory of fields and vineyards where it reigns unchallenged. From its small central tower, it can see far, but in reality its little world is self-sufficient. Its buildings are set around a shaded courtyard, with gardens planted all around and pine trees standing watch, reflecting on its quest for harmony between the power of minerals and the strength of plants. To this is added its taste for large interior spaces, which are furnished and decorated with care. The flow from one space to the other is so fluid that it seems totally natural. Outside, the plants emit their Mediterranean scents and sunlight filters through the welcome shade of the awnings. A siesta under the trees, a dip in the swimming pool, a game of tennis or pétanque at the end of the day, a huge meal under the stars...the farmhouse is sure to enchant its guests.
It is a family home, bought, renovated and extended by my father nearly 40 years ago. The property is a haven of calm, lost in the middle of fields and vines, in the heart of the valley set in a vast expanse of several hectares. You can see the villages of Gordes, Roussillon and Joucas from it.
It is an ochre-coloured U-shaped country house, evoking stone from the Roussillon quarries, with an inner courtyard and an ancient plane tree, as well as a few dry-stone walls which are typical of the region. It has large rooms and bathrooms, wide windows that open onto the countryside, and thick walls that keep the air cool in the heat. With a surface area of 800 m², the house lends itself to large gatherings while respecting the freedom and privacy of each person. A water feature in the nurturing enclosure brings freshness to the whole garden, which is an integral part of the property. This includes a vegetable garden, lavender and rosemary bushes, a heath and a herb garden, and a hen house, all of which blend harmoniously into the landscape.
In the beginning, there was practically nothing here. It was an abandoned 19th century farmhouse surrounded by fields as far as the eye could see. My parents completely restored it and planted a green, water-thirsty garden, combining formal French gardens, huge pine trees, lime trees and hundred-year-old olive trees, which we have kept. Three years ago, we undertook new renovations to make the place our own. We worked exclusively with local craftsmen, sourced unique pieces, and brought our own world and personality to the property by playing with noble, natural materials such as pear wood, plaster, lava stone, raw earth and ochre. To respect the environment and its territory, the classic garden has been transformed into a Mediterranean garden, with no chemical products and as little water consumption as possible.
The house’s location provides a haven of tranquillity, with a family of caretakers who take great care of their guests. This is an authentic estate where everything is close at hand: a 10 x 15 m swimming pool, tennis court, gym, table football, table tennis, football pitch, pool table, cinema screen with a collection of films, and a courtyard reminiscent of Provence villages where you can play pétanque. Outside, there are a number of areas where you can enjoy the sun or the shade, have a drink in the courtyard, catch up on old times around the brazier, pick herbs to make your own tea, discover the treasures of the vegetable garden or relax in the shade of the gardeners' hut.
Browse at L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, notably at the Karl Lahmi gallery and at Frédéric Bousquet. In Apt, the wine shop "V Comme Vin" has a high quality selection. Visit the village of Goult for its peace and quiet, even in the height of summer, then climb to the heights to discover what we consider to be the most beautiful view in the Luberon. In Saint-Saturnin-les-Apt, the "Saint Hubert" restaurant offers breathtaking views and dishes made with organic and local produce. For nature lovers, there are numerous hiking trails starting from the property, while for those who are a little less brave, the Ochre Trail at Roussillon is like a trip to Colorado that will delight young and old alike.
The entire property, including the house and its 27 hectares of grounds, can be made rented out for film and photo shoots. There are eight rooms of accommodation available on site. Hotels in Apt and Gordes, just 15 minutes away, have additional capacity if required.
